Alveda King: allusions, illusions and ego-enhancement and attack on civil and human rights

Alveda King

Alveda Celeste King, the niece of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and daughter of the late civil rights activist Rev. A. D. William King, Sr. (the younger brother of Martin Luther King) and his wife Naomi Barber King, falsely claims to be a minister: neither ordained nor anointed, and not within her father’s church.  She has none of the charity required by the Jesus of the New Testament as detailed in his sermon on the mountain (Matthew 5-7) and is opposed to affirmative action and assistance for Black people (and people of other races, too), single parents, and individuals with AIDS

Alveda King calls herself a Christian, but she has never met, studied, or introduced in her self-glorifying speeches and harangues against women seeking the right of choice, the LGBT community protesting for basic civil and human rights, or fathers wanting equal rights in a single statement that the Jesus of the New Testament is recorded to have said (Rollan McCleary (2004). A Special Illumination: Authority, Inspiration and Heresy in Gay Spirituality, Queensland, Australia: David Brown Book Co.; London, UK and Oakville, CT : Equinox Publishers.).  If Jesus would have stood before her, Alveda would stone him as he never had a girl friend, he never married, he never had children, he never condemned LGBT person but said to everyone that they were to love one another (John 13:34-35).

Alveda King, unlike the Jewish Jesus of the New Testament (long before the Emperor Constantine catalytically changed the rabbi’s message opening salvation to everyone into a myopic minister mincing for the tranquility of a tarnished Empire), lies each moment she breathes a word in favor of her pet projects.  The young Miss King was known to be headstrong and demanding with her parents, and her father took to drinking to drown his depression.

Alfred Daniel Williams King (1930 – 1969)

One day, early in her life, Alveda’s father was found dead in his swimming pool that was strange by all accounts as the Reverend   A. D. [Alfred Daniel] William King was known to be a good swimmer (King, Martin Luther (1980). Daddy King: An Autobiography. New York, NY: Morrow, p. 192).  Some argued it was a suicide to escape the anguish he experienced with his daughter, Alveda who had none of his idealism, none of his love for humanity, none of his energy to work for the good of all people–but preferred to strike out in her own interests for herself alone as seen in her serial marriages and private life.

While Alveda promotes the alleged sanctity of marriage, Ms. King seldom practiced what she preached about matrimonial stability, fidelity, and loyalty, as Alveda King was married (once because of date-rape) and divorced three times, giving birth to six living children.  One can comment, as many have before me, that Alveda King, who claims that marriage is a sacred institution as defined  by her god, certainly was not redefining marriage, just exercising her right to it, over and over and over again.  Alveda’s hypocrisy is appalling, and a sign of the mental malaise of narcissistic personality disorder (Naso, Ronald C. (2007). “Beneath the mask: Hypocrisy and the pathology of shame”. doi: 10.1037/0736-9735.24.1.113.  Psychoanalytic Psychology, Vol 24(1), January 2007, 113-125; the mental illness of Alveda King can be illustrated by two points relevant to her own hypocrisy: (a) misperceive one’s behavior as moral and (b) avoid comparing one’s behavior with moral standards: cf. Batson, C. Daniel; Thompson, Elizabeth R.; Seuferling, Greg; Whitney, Heather; Strongman, Jon A. (1999). “Moral hypocrisy: Appearing moral to oneself without being so”. doi: 10.1037/0022-3514.77.3.525. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Vol 77(3), Sep 1999, 525-537; cp. Stone, Jeff; Wiegand, Andrew W.; Cooper, Joel; Aronson, Elliot (1997). “When exemplification fails: Hypocrisy and the motive for self-integrity”. doi: 10.1037/0022-3514.72.1.54. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Vol 72(1), January 1997, 54-65).

Alveda King had two abortions.  She tried to have a third.  The third quest was met with rebuff as neither her father nor grandfather would pay for it. There were far cheaper forms of birth control, she was told.

Alveda King has moderate literacy but a paucity of understanding the nuances of what she says and shows no mature patterns of reading or relating what is read to her life as she lives it.  She studied journalism and sociology as an undergraduate but left no mark of distinction behind.  Alveda received a Master of Arts degree (not an MBA) in business management from Central Michigan University.  She did not earn a doctoral degree.  Her doctorate is honorary and it is not in theology, bible, or any basic science that she now pretends to possess.  She has no credentials in ministry, theology, bible study, or biblical languages.  She took the honorary doctorate from Saint Anselm College (a Benedictine Roman Catholic school in Manchester, New Hampshire, which has no established criteria in awarding any honorary degree, but has higher standards for undergraduate admission requiring students to be in the upper 23% of their graduating class, and offers 57.7% of its classes with a class size of 20 or less students to facilitate greater teacher-student contact ratio; The average freshman retention rate, an indicator of student satisfaction, is 84.8 percent. Cost is over $33,000 a year, although scholarship of up to $18,000 are available).  Alveda explained her own surprise at being given the degree and told Salon that she may have received it do to “my stand on the support of marriage, and family, and education, and life” (Denvir, Daniel (August 27, 2010). “Meet MLK’s Glenn Beck-loving niece”. Salon).

Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. , June 22, 1963

Her public work consisted of two terms in the Georgia legislature.  She was not responsible for any significant piece of legislation. While she brags that she is for the family and education, her political record has zero bills introduced by the legislator who took no official party label.  Representing the 28th district (see page 2051) her main accomplishment is she accepted a salary.  Today Alveda is a Tea-Party Republican and wrongfully claims that her uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, was a Republican even though Martin Luther King worked tirelessly against Goldwater and other Republicans throughout his lifetime.  She is on talk shows and working with “Priests for Life” (with no criticism for pedophiles in the priesthood) but exerts no effort in support for the family, marriage, or education.

Eddie Murphy (actor)

After two disastrous terms in the Georgia legislature, Alveda King left the to write, without stellar success, The Arab Heart. When Eddie Murphy made a movie that she claimed followed her unsold manuscript, Alveda denounced Paramount Pictures claiming that the film industry stole her story.  She sued. The case was given the number 20 F.3d 454: Alveda King Beal, Plaintiff-appellant, v. Paramount Pictures Corporation, et al., Defendants-appellees.

Ms. King’s claim was thrown out of lower courts.  Their decision was upheld by the United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit. – 20 F.3d 454, that wrote that the script used by Eddie Murphy had little resemblance to the story written by King.

Ever since Alveda King lost her court case over a unpublishable and unpublished book/script she has been on a roller coaster ride of unleashed and irrational hatred. She is like an Old Testament prophet: outraged, boisterous, damning others and calling for the deaths of those who disagreed with them.

Coretta Scott King

Her aunt, Coretta Scott King, was her apotheosis, especially when Coretta Scott King, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s wife and Alveda’s aunt, said before she passed away in 2006, “I believe all Americans who believe in freedom, tolerance and human rights have a responsibility to oppose bigotry and prejudice based on sexual orientation.” Apparently that was lost on Alveda King, who has done nothing to preserve the true memory of her uncle; rather, she has continued to molest, tarnish and chip away at his memory throughout her lifetime.

Coretta Scott King supported all civil and human rights

After Coretta Scott King came out in support for human rights and LGBT civil liberties in 2004 (read here and watch here), Alveda’s vitriol hit a new high. In 1994, Alveda released a letter condemning Coretta Scott King’s support for abortion and gay and all other human rights, pontificating like any Old Testament Prophet poisoning minds and badgering families or any medieval pope, that such action in support of human rights would bring “curses on your house and your people … cursing, vexation, rebuke in all that you put your hand to, sickness will come to you and your house, your bloodline will be cut off.”

Herndon Davis (L) interviews civil rights activist, Lynn Cothren (R)

Alveda King quickly attacked Lynn Cothren, Coretta Scott King’s openly gay special assistant of 23 years.  Alveda King’s homophobia and lack of quality or significant knowledge about AIDS illustrating an odious irrational mental illness by itself that made her dangerous to those she came in contact with (cf. McGuire, John; Nieri, Deborah; Abbott, David; Sheridan, Kathleen; Fisher, Randy (1995). “Do Tarasoff principles apply in AIDS-related psychotherapy? Ethical decision-making and the role of therapist homophobia and perceived client dangerousness”. doi: 10.1037/0735-7028.26.6.608. Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, Vol 26(6), December 1995, 608-611. Cp. Trezza, Glenn R. (1994). “HIV knowledge and stigmatization of persons with AIDS: Implications for the development of HIV education for young adults”. doi: 10.1037/0735-7028.25.2.141. Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, Vol 25(2), May 1994, 141-148), Cothren recalled Alveda’s vocal opposition to a hospice for AIDS patients in her neighborhood and her rejection of any AIDS sufferer–male or female, heterosexual or homosexual (cf. Morrison, Constance F. (1989). “AIDS: Ethical implications for psychological intervention”. doi: 10.1037/0735-7028.20.3.166. Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, Vol 20(3), Jun 1989, 166-171). Once, says Cothren, Alveda brought religious tracts to the King Center and encouraged him to repent (ref. Slater, Barbara R. (1988). “Essential issues in working with lesbian and gay male youths”. doi: 10.1037/0735-7028.19.2.226. Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, Vol 19(2), Apr 1988, 226-235), but Coretta Scott King dealt with her niece firmly and the separation occurred and it was permanent.  From that time on, Alveda has worked to make a name for herself and to cast aspersions on her aunt who died in 2006.

Glorifying herself with narcissistic servile adulation, Alveda King arrogantly boasted: “I’ve got his DNA [this claim has never been proven]. She [Coretta Scott King] doesn’t, she didn’t … Therefore[,] I know something about him [this is one more god-complex King uses to diminish her own sense of worthlessness] in quest of crowd or group concurring with the boast (cp. Martin, Everett Dean (1920). “The egoism of the crowd-mind,” (pp. 73-91) in The behavior of crowds: A psychological study, (pp. 73-91). New York, NY, US: MacMillan Co, iii, 312 pp). I’m made out of the same stuff (illustrating a manifestation of neediness envy and the malignant potential of envy; cf. Shoshani, Michael; Shoshani, Batya; Kella, Rachel; Becker, Mitchel (2011).  “Green eyes, crows, and scorpions: Envy in the contexts of neediness, separateness, and narcissism”. doi: 10.1037/a0024679. Psychoanalytic Psychology, July 25 , 2011; when a person feels as if they are supplanted by a superior person or fears that there is another individual who receives more recognition, as with Coretta Scott King, the individual, such as Alveda King, reverts to pathological narcissism; cp. Paris, Joel (2012). “Modernity and Narcissistic Personality Disorder”. doi: 10.1037/a0028580. Personality Disorders: Theory, Research, and Treatment, July 16 , 2012).”  Alveda does not understand, or chooses to ignore, that each person has a unique DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid that contains genetic instructions of cellular composition but it is not absolute as a determiner, and there is no record of Alveda having her DNA compared with her uncle Dr. Martin Luther King or any uncle nor even her grandfather); all a DNA sampling can do is confirm similarity and paternity.

Julian Bond Attacks NOM, Tells AC360 Gay Rights Are Civil Rights

Civil rights activists uniformly reject the protestations and pretenses of Alveda, denouncing her as ruining the legacy of Martin Luther King that she repeatedly demonstrated a lack of familiarity with and view her as a fraud (recollection and familiarity are not the same; performance is more parsimoniously accounted for by a single mnemonic process that drives both recollection and familiarity estimates, and Alveda King shows little familiarity with the Civil Rights movement; cf. Pratte, Michael S.; Rouder, Jeffrey N. (2012). “Assessing the dissociability of recollection and familiarity in recognition memory”. doi: 10.1037/a0028144. Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, Vol 38(6), Nov 2012, 1591-1607). David Garrow, a civil rights movement historian at the University of Cambridge has noted that Dr. Martin Luther King was a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood, and that Bayard Rustin, one of the five closest advisors to Dr. King was openly gay—which Dr. Martin Luther King did not denounce.  Julian Bond, President Emeritus of the NAACP, called on all people of Maryland to support same-sex marriage as a basic civil right.

Alveda King supports war as biblically based: Kill Team Photos Showcasing War Crimes of US Soldiers in Afghanistan …

Alveda supports wars, especially in Afghanistan and Iraq. Claiming “conflicts and tensions, war and murders,” are Biblically based, Alveda says there will always be “wars and rumors of wars [quoting out of context Matthew 24:6]” but in doing so justifies the wars that maim, kill, plunder, pollute and are psychologically harmful (cf. Phipps, Sean (2011). “Positive psychology and war: An oxymoron”. doi: 10.1037/a0024933. American Psychologist, Vol 66(7), Oct 2011, 641-642). People will fight with words as well as guns proving their alleged humanity, but only in their own mind as a form of justification for dangerous and destruction of the self and mental health.  Her comments that made her a favorite of Glenn Beck.

Alveda King support torture as biblical will of God

What psychologists have learned is if religion increases moral certainty about the justness of a war, then it may also contribute to support for violent warfare, rape, pillage and destruction that, in the end, will cause increased mental illness, collective insanity, and excuses for torture and unspeakable crimes leading to methodologically induced suicides.

Suicide Rivals The Battlefield In Toll On U.S. Military; Alveda King and Tea Party Republicans claim it is in God’s plan

The rate of suicides among military have skyrocketed with soldiers using weapons engraved or emblazoned with Biblical verses. As Shaw, et al. point out greater religiosity relates to greater moral certainty, and greater moral certainty strengthens the (positive) relation between religiosity and support for violent warfare. Furthermore, moral certainty is a stronger predictor of support for violent warfare in religious conflict than it is in geopolitical conflict and those with the least mental strength but robustness of voice and vocabulary are heralded as spokespeople for divine wrath, as with Alveda King and Glenn Beck (cf. Shaw, Moira; Quezada, Stephanie A.; Zárate, Michael A. (2011). “Violence with a conscience: Religiosity and moral certainty as predictors of support for violent warfare”. doi: 10.1037/ a0025346. Psychology of Violence, Vol 1(4), Oct 2011, 275-286; cp. Crowson, H. Michael (2009). “Right-wing authoritarianism and social dominance orientation: As mediators of worldview beliefs on attitudes related to the war on terror”. doi: 10.1027/1864-9335.40.2.93. Social Psychology,

Suicides by military branch

Vol 40(2), Jun 2009, 93-103).  The stronger the group identity is focused on a holy war (common among jihadists in Afghanistan and the Middle East and evangelical extremists in the USA) the stronger will be the outcry for greater atrocities and war strategies, as advocated by Alveda King and Glenn Beck (cf. Eidelson, Roy J. (2009). “An individual-group belief framework: Predicting life satisfaction, group identification, and support for the “ war on terror”. doi: 10.1080/10781910802435572. Peace and Conflict: Journal of Peace Psychology, Vol 15(1), Jan 2009, 1-26).  Ted Cruz of Texas is the most dangerous man in the USA and is expected to win a Senate seat as a representative of the Tea Party and pro-life/pro-war groups in 2012, with plans to escalate the conflict in the Middle East to bring about his god’s Armageddon and force the god of Matthew 10:34 to ride out of the heavens and bring carnage to the earth to free believers from unbelievers.

Alveda King has verbally attacked everything that her illustrious uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, preached and practiced.  She has claimed that people who support same-sex marriage equality will go to hell—but there is no such condemnation in the Bible, as the word “homosexual” does not even appear in the Bible before 1954. The concept has a long history used to control thinking and actions; it is a mythology that restricts movements and causes mental collapse so that the individuals declaring its existence stay in power (cf. Bering, Jesse M. (2008). “Why Hell is other people: Distinctively human psychological suffering”. doi: 10.1037/1089-2680.12.1.1. Review of General Psychology, Vol 12(1), Mar 2008, 1-8) .  Hell does not exist on any fragment or scroll in early language: Aramaic, Armenian, Greek, Hebrew, or even Latin save as a dark place (Sheol: Hebrew שְׁאוֹל Šʾôl thattranslates as “grave”, “pit”, “abode/home of the dead” and is defined as the place where everyone, good and bad, righteous and unrighteous will go when each person dies (890 – 300 BCE); some thought that there would be a time when the dead would rise up as “the undead” [zombies] but that does not appear in the Christian Bible until Matthew 27:52-53).  Since Hell is “downward” and dark it is cold and uninviting, while “Heaven” is “upward” and filled with light and warmth, the two conflicting mental attainments lead or coerce people into doing what the authoritarian figure(s: priest, rabbis/teachers, rulers, etc.) determine to be worthy of light and recognition.  The opposite is to be rejected since it determines only obscurity and lack of acceptance (cf. Meier, Brian P.; Hauser, David J.; Robinson, Michael D.; Friesen, Chris Kelland; Schjeldahl, Katie (2007). “What’s “up” with God? Vertical space as a representation of the divine”. doi: 10.1037/0022-3514.93.5.699. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Vol 93(5), Nov 2007, 699-710).  Hell (Gehenna [Greek γέεννα], Gehinnom [Rabbinical Hebrew: גהנום/גהנם] a physical valley) does not appear in any of the early Bibles written by Eusebius under orders from the Emperor Constantine I who commissioned the first fifty Bibles.  For Alveda to blast people with these repulsive terms out of context of any ancient language but relying on fourteenth century mistranslations and erroneous interpretations fashions the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King into an intellectual charlatan and fraud.  Alveda King’s language ability is not even sophomoric or soundly based on competent English but rather a gutter-approach to street English.

King has shown no knowledge at any level about the Bible, as demonstrated in her attendance to Glenn Beck’s pathetic parade of pandering people at his Washington DC Restoring Honor rally. Alveda forgot to read Matthew 6:6: σὺ δὲ ὅταν προσεύχῃ εἴσελθε εἰς τὸ ταμεῖόν σου καὶ κλείσας τὴν θύραν σου πρόσευξαι τῷ πατρί σου τῷ ἐν τῷ κρυπτῷ καὶ ὁ πατήρ σου ὁ βλέπων ἐν τῷ κρυπτῷ ἀποδώσει σοι, Mark 4:36: καὶ ἀφέντες τὸν ὄχλον παραλαμβάνουσιν αὐτὸν ὡς ἦν ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ, καὶ ἄλλα πλοῖα ἦν μετ’ αὐτοῦ, and Matthew 18:20: οὗ γὰρ εἰσιν δύο ἢ τρεῖς συνηγμένοι εἰς τὸ ἐμὸν ὄνομα, ἐκεῖ εἰμι ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν; that was no longer a part of Glenn Beck’s religion of choice at that time when Glenn Beck chose an alternate route to truth.

30,000 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX 2012

The majority of those who claim to be Christians (following Imperial laws decreed at the Council of Nicaea) reject those teachings of Jesus in their large assemblies.  This draconian deed dominated Rick Perry’s Day of Prayer in Houston (known as “The Response” that had the markings of a political campaign) that had the same trappings as Jim Jones’ Jonestown, Guyana,

November 19, 1978, Jamestown Massacre for Christ and Rev. Jim Jones

Massacreon November 18, 1978 (one-third of the victims were children as young as new born and others in infancy).  Parents murdered their own children.  Many adults committed suicide as commanded by their reverend Jim Jones, before  Jones was shot on his order by one of his subordinates who was told to obey God–as Jones had become god to most and his orders were never questioned (the Guyanese coroner Cyrill Mootoo claimed it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound; Reiterman, Tim and Jacobs, John (1981). Raven: The Untold Story of Rev. Jim Jones and His People. New York, NY: Dutton,  p. 565)–in a way that Alveda King fashions herself to be a god even within the narrow confines of the Priests for Life of the Roman Catholic Church.  There is no difference in the speeches of Jim Jones or other demigods than is found in the oratory and harangue of Alveda King when she speaks to Blacks–as Jones spoke to  hundreds of Black families who came to experience his heaven on earth.

Martin Luther King, Jr. “I Have A Dream” speech 1963.

It is true that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. used the Lincoln Memorial as a backdrop for his August 28, 1963, “I Have A Dream” speech (watch it here and here), but it was not an attack upon the rights of people to adequate housing, quality education, or the right to be themselves (the term same-sex and homosexual were not yet in common use, but would be integrated by Julian Bond who would become the leader and President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) with King’s assassination, and in 2012 say “gay rights are civil rights” read here and here and here) as transmogrified in the war of words by Alveda King and former Roman Catholic (now a convert to the LDS Church) modern-day Sisyphus Glenn Beck, who like Alveda King has little practice following Acts 10:34.

1909 Lincoln Evening News: “No law against woman marrying another woman”

Alveda blasts those who would follow the teaching of the Jesus of the New Testament who forbade judgment against others (Matthew 7:1) in her declaration “Your safety of your very soul is dependent upon not supporting marriage for loving same-sex couples, who already have enough rights”, in this ad she recorded for the anti-gay Maryland Marriage Alliance (click on the underscored link above to hear the verbal screed that is printed below):

Voting on discrimination (2012)

“Hello, I’m Dr. [sic (people with honorary degrees do not use the honorary title)] Alveda King, the niece of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I understand the civil rights struggle [she was never personally involved in any civil rights struggle, although the home she lived in was fire-bombed in 1963, when she was 12]. During the Civil Rights Movement, we were working for access to education, to decent housing, jobs, and healthcare [there is no record, no photograph, and no other evidence of her participating in any march, any protest, or any other movement for civil rights for any person or people]. As a minister [she is not: she has never been to a seminary, never studied hermeneutics or biblical exegesis nor even textual criticism; Alveda is a “ pastoral associate of African-America outreach for Priests for Life, (her self-written biography styles her a “best-selling author” and jailed for protesting for open housing, although there is no civil record of her arrest; it also claims that Alveda is pushing for Bible curriculum in public schools, and lists herself as accomplished actress and songwriter)” a Roman Catholic anti-choice group, King styles herself a Baptist], I believe that the NAACP leadership and gay rights activists have formed an unholy alliance by trying to convince you and me that marriage should be redefined. We did not define marriage and we cannot redefine marriage. Marriage, by definition, is a holy union [that is not found anywhere in the Bible] between one man and one woman [Alveda ignores the polygamy of all patriarchs, and the incest within families (II Samuel 13:1-22) as with King David’s sons]. Gay and lesbian couples already have rights under Maryland law, like priority hospital visitation, sharing property, tax exemption, adoption, and the list goes on. It’s possible to be tolerant of gay and lesbian rights without redefine [sic: redefining] marriage—God’s holy union. Some preachers are saying that gay marriage is inevitable and that they want to be on the right side of history. Well I believe that we are on the right side of history and the right side of eternity. Support marriage as God’s holy union between one man and one woman—vote against Question Six.”

Harry Jackson of Maryland

The greatest threats are those ministers like “bishop” Harry Jackson of Maryland, that the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) paid no less than $20,000 for their support in their crusade to deny freedom of choice. Like most Pentecostal pastors Jackson will doing anything for money, preying that he is endowed with the wealth his god intended him to possess.

The right side of eternity? Alveda is God? God is political? Wow.

When religion triumphs over reason, faith, psychology, investigation, and research, learning dies

Calvin burns Servetus

Religion is a destructive and totally negative force in life as defined by all official “Church Fathers”, Protestant leaders, and emerging Muslim clerics.  John Calvin wrote: “We cannot think of ourselves as we ought to think without utterly despising everything that may be supposed an excellence in us.  This humility is unfeigned submission of a mind overwhelmed with a weighty sense of its own misery and poverty; for such is the uniform description of it in the word of God [i.e. the Bible]. (Johannes Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion (Philadelphia, PA: Presbyterian Board of Christian Education, 1928), p. 681.)

Lake of Fire adopted from Arabian mythology into Constantine’s Christianity (c. 335 CE)

The Calvinist faith, like the all Protestant religions, birthed in the sixteenth century, was a revision of the hell-fire and brimstone theology of the Roman Catholic Church that was dragged into the world 1200 years earlier.  The scattered closed communities of the followers of the Jesus captured in the numerous gospels–before they were decreed and canonized as four–had no need of anger or debasement.  With Constantine I at Nicaea, everything changed for the worse with horror and fear replacing peace and hope.

Threats of torments (200 BCE – 285 CE) a part of most world religions as pictured in this mosaic

Everything was bad in this world, and in this environment that mortals lived, people were plagued with temptations and anger.  All they could do was waiting impatiently for a better world (a “world to come” (עולם הבא) a term or phrase that appears nowhere in the Hebrew Bible)–promised, but one that never would come (Matthew 12:32, Hebrews 2:5, both written more than one generation after the Jesus of the New Testament had, according to various gospels, died).  Antecedents stem from older hieroglyphic writing and cuneiform inscription and are directed toward marginalized people as well as individuals who are seen as “opposing the will of god” or “defying the ruler” who usually was the same authority figure.

Acts of faith? Self-flagellation before crucifixion in The Philippines (2012 CE)

It was the impact of thinking of perdition, rejection, and self-abasement that made people willing to die in the folly of religious wars and suffer various forms of martyrdom in body and spirit as well as mind from enduring church-sanctioned torture of the Inquisition to self-flagellation and crucifixion—giving over to the terrorist tactics of ecclesiastical eunuchs preying for misery who determined rubrics of ritual and righteousness. With this hortatory hounding by the dogs of faith, the psychology of man was cannibalized carnivorously.  The strength of good intention was left circumspect for others to glean fruit from with ritualistic rapiers and capture and mutilate the essence of the original thinker.

John Calvin (Tyrant of Geneva)

John Calvin (French: Jean Calvin, born Jehan Cauvin: 10 July 1509 – 27 May 1564), being trained as a humanist lawyer found his faith uncertain.  Wide fluctuations in the faith gave little stability to a man whose mind was fixated on absolutes.  He broke from the Roman Catholic Church in 1530, and causing an uprising by denouncing the religion of his parents, fled to Switzerland where he attempted to set up a Kingdom of God—a belief that many shared hoping that the Jesus of the New Testament would return to the water planet Earth with a sword to kill unbelievers (Matthew 10:34).

Michael Servetus (drawing c. 1509-1511)

To this end, Calvin, when he took over the canton of Geneva, agreed with the murder of Michael Servetus (also known as Miguel Servet, Miguel Serveto alias Revés, or Michel de Villeneuve and in Spanish as Miguel Serveto Conesa).   Servetus was born 29 September? 1509 or 1511 and was executed for questioning the existence of the Trinity, as he could not find Biblical evidence of this novel idea that originated in ancient Egypt, on 27 October 1553.  Servetus was an Aragonese cartographer, physician and theologian, but most damning to his contemporaries was that he was neither a loyal son of the Roman Catholic Church nor a believer in many of the pagan innovations within the Roman Catholic faith as he had become a Renaissance humanist who put mortals before mythology.  For this the Roman Catholic Church and all existing Protestant sects determined that he had to die.

Calvinist text used in Colonial New England schools

Vilifying Servetus was easy for Calvin who seldom had a kind word for anyone. Calvin was determined that he would be recognized as a priest of a god similar to the ones his parents had worshiped–but without the trappings of Rome and the papacy.  To accomplish this feat, Calvin revamped the concept of education, taking it backward in time, rejecting research and exploration, and identical to the Taliban (the singular is talib and must be translated as a theological student or a student at a religious Islamic school: طالبان .  Initially they were Afghans of Aghanistan–until 1993.  After 1993, the rigid Calvinistic-like religion of Muslim Taliban students of the Qur’an spilled over into Pakistan and spread like a noxious virus throughout the Muslim world with the primary purpose to keep the sexes separated–a goal of Calvin in his schools, and like Calvin stop the enjoyment of music, arts, and refined clothing).  Calvinists modified some of their austerity, but not the Taliban of the twentieth and twenty-first century who commanded that learning be based on and around and on the Qur’an as Calvin had demanded that his version of education be centered on the Protestant Bible and the articles of faith that he invented and wrote down to be printed.

Calvin’s adoption of faith was unique inasmuch as he was the center of that faith, although he always demurred before the godhead as the absolute sovereign.  His faith was monarchical without a shred of democracy anywhere–a prototype for evangelical extremists of today.  Calvin mused on his own “conversion”—giving two different accounts in conflict with one another.  Later in his life, John Calvin wrote two different accounts of his conversion that differ in significant ways. In the first account he portrays his conversion as a sudden change of mind, brought about by God. This account can be found in his Commentary on the Book of Psalms: “God by a sudden conversion subdued and brought my mind to a teachable frame, which was more hardened in such matters than might have been expected from one at my early period of life. Having thus received some taste and knowledge of true godliness, I was immediately inflamed with so intense a desire to make progress therein, that although I did not altogether leave off other studies, yet I pursued them with less ardour” (Calvin, J[ohn] J. Calvin, preface to Commentary on the Book of Psalms, trans. James Anderson, vol. 1 (Grand Rapids, MI: Eerdmans, 1948), pp. xl–xli).

In his second account he speaks of a long process of inner turmoil, followed by spiritual and psychological anguish.  He wrote: “Being exceedingly alarmed at the misery into which I had fallen, and much more at that which threatened me in view of eternal death, I, duty bound, made it my first business to betake myself to your way, condemning my past life, not without groans and tears. And now, O Lord, what remains to a wretch like me, but instead of defence [sic], earnestly to supplicate you not to judge that fearful abandonment of your Word according to its deserts, from which in your wondrous goodness you have at last delivered me” (Gordon, Bruce (2009).  Calvin. New Haven, CT; London, England: Yale University Press, p. 34.)  The difference between the accounts strongly suggests that the epiphany was over a period of years, as contended by Ganoczy, Alexandre (1966) in his book Le Jeune Calvin. Genèse et evolution de sa vocation réformatrice, Wiesbaden, Germany: F. Steiner, p. 302.  He argues that Calvin conversion took place over several years and that it was not a biographical or chronological event. Many factors played a role: economic, social, family, and personal desires both mental and physical.

Rejecting oneself as “each person is a sinner and evil” requires separating the genders to avoid temptation.

By despising the self as Calvin chortled, the mind impoverished itself by failing to strike out and learn that which was forbidden or prohibited by clerics thriving fat on the ignorance of their followers.  Religion became a new form of authoritarianism, and the gods of each ontology became the symbol of power and force that shadowed the denizens of despair and death of individuality.

Priests, bishops, and the pope or patriarch of Orthodoxy became the sacrosanct soothsayers for deities clouded in marble and painted on wood, with saints who had been ancient gods clustered around them in whittled or chiseled relief.  The Führer—the beloved “father of his people” since 374 BCE—became the temporal overlord and determined everything from whom had sex with who and at what time (with the overlord frequently claiming the “right of first night” (droit du seigneur or jus primae noctis is found only in the literature of the 13th to 16th century in Europe, but there are no written laws or statutes that exist today to prove its authenticity, and is sourced only to the epic of Gilgamesh in 1900 BCE) to know that the woman was a virgin before handing her over to a waiting bridegroom), what was eaten by whom, what hours were worked, what taxes were collected, and when belfry bells tolled tidings that thought was to be forsaken, the individual self was to merge into a sterilized community of like-thinkers, and all pawns and serfs would grovel their way to the churches supported by flying buttresses as if the arms of each were holding up the roof so that the unseen god could perch like a bird and listen to praises of his divine name since he was uncertain if mortals truly knew his magnificence and glory.

The gods of the past were never strong enough to protect themselves.  They required spiritual warriors who would pick up swords and later shoulder guns to fight in defense of the names that mortals gave the deities to assure that conformity was (frequently masqueraded as with the Moors of fifteenth century Spain) devotion.

Caravansarai, ca. first half of 8th century BCE. Drawing on a potsherd of Yahweh and the goddess Asherah and her consorts (she would ultimately marry Yahweh).

The young calf nursing at the teat of the great cow became the Yahweh of future generations, and the bastard son of a young girl would be sacrificed on a poll in imitation of the would-be slaughter of another youth who was tied to an altar to prove his devotion to a god (Genesis 22:1-12, where the Jews claimed the youth was Isaac; in Islam, it is Ishmael, the first born of Hagar: Qur’an XXXVII: 100-107; the story is found in many ancient Semitic cultures including early Babylonia and Minæn) all became beams holding up the decaying timber supporting air that was the heart of religions.  The gods in each tale were not omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, nor unique. They were much like the great Arabian desert barbarian would punch his seven year-old bride in the chest for mirth and pleasure and laugh at her anguish and horror (Qur’an Sahih Muslim 4:2127).

Inbred into this are the false submission of matter or holy books over mind and the conduct of free inquiry that furthers the enslavement of the thought process behind a prison of contrived regulations and rules, commandments and pronouncements from pontiffs and pastors who demand uniform submission to the word of their particular god(s) (Erich Fromm (1941). Escape from Freedom. New York, NY: Farrer & Rinehart, p. 441 f).  The surrendering of personal prerogatives and rights to another is a sign of insecurity and masochism.  Self-renunciation was adopted by many as a means of pain, but by rejecting reality lead and continues to lead people into an unnatural world and a breakdown of human consciousness as pleasure and pain that are both motivators for the individual, like aging, agony and other normal experiences including death (that must be accepted as a part of living) leads to additional neurosis and further complicates adjustment to self and society (ref. Maudsley, Henry (1902), “Pain–life–death” in Life in mind & conduct: Studies of organic in human nature (pp. 394-435). London, Great Britain: Macmillan and Co. xv, 444 p).

John Wycliff (14th century) celebrated pain as surrender to god.

The antithesis of these mortal-created religions is humanism.  Humanism centers on the individual and the individual’s strength of mind, purpose, and being. A strict code or list of prohibitions of what can be read, studied, or done limits the individual and the individual’s growth toward personal self- actualization and contribution to society as a whole.  This idea was repugnant to Wycliffe (14th century translator of the Bible into English, and theologian), Calvin, Luther and other reformers, as well as the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches, repeating the actions of the ultra-orthodox Jews who argued that life was a testing ground to show the individual’s worthiness for eternal life and to win the favor and forgiveness of the “fearful Lord” who was supreme judge and one who would cast the non-repentant into Hell to experience eternal damnation.

Modern psychology sides with the early humanist movement, but goes further. The individual, alone, develops a sense of power of reason, first to understand the self, then to comprehend those people near and far.  Truth is realized as limited, both in understanding the limitations on the self as well as the potentialities of the self, and reaches out to others in solidarity and friendship.

With the hand extended forward, not raised up in salute to violence as used in ancient Rome, the Second and Third Reich, or to invoke the despicable image of a means of torture, be it pillar, pole, or cross, the mind realizes strength and does not recede into a learned sense of powerlessness and subjection. Virtue becomes self-realization and self-actualization, not groveling in obedience to the whim or will of another: parent, sibling, teacher, governor, religious leader or would-be god of a cult.

Faith is not a memorized or read from catechisms or other holy texts of a brand or branch of theology.  Faith is internal and separate from sectarianism and sadism. Instead, the certainty of one’s conviction based upon experience of thought and action by the body attuned with nature that is the divine brings enlightenment and knowledge of the self and the rights of others.

The epiphany that a person experiences when he or she discovers the inward self arrives with joy and renewed quest for additional knowledge, not labored under a whip and chain plied to the torn skin in a frenzy of self-flagellation as was the custom of Josemaria Escrivá de Balaguer who beat himself severely until his bathroom was anointed with his blood in a feigned sense of religiosity to purge his vile and venal thoughts of the flesh of young women in his quest to understand and create cult-practices in an elitist movement known as Opus Dei in the name of a false sanctity.  There are many priests, especially in Opus Dei, who justify, defend, and encourage physical mortification and abuse of the body, citing” “I pommel my body and subdue it” (1 Corinthians 9:27), but it is translated in Catholicism’s New American Bible as “I drive my body and train it” referencing to a spiritual, not physical, exercise.  It is the same with the Opus Dei credo that mistranslates other words of the legendary Saul of Tarsus: “I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church” (Colossians 1:24). The Opus Dei affirmations (read here and here and here being a call to give up personal values, interests, growth, and identity: read here) gave rise to Dan Brown’s historically accurate (although, as far as I know, there are no albinos in the mummery at least at this time) book The DaVinci Code (Brown, Dan (2003). The DaVinci Code. New York, NY: Doubleday) that is a measured account of the secretive organization, and its practice of self-flagellation that even Pope John Paul II practiced regularly.  Mortification of the body through starving, thirsting, or flagellation serves no good and causes paranoid behavior.  Many times such paranoia arises, especially among older people, who see personal physical abuse as tantamount to being in a war zone: this time an eternal war between good and evil. Psychologists have studied post-traumatic stress disorders especially among those returning from war fronts that the sufferer equates as being in a near Armageddon situation, and finds it difficult to relate to the traditional family or a more conventional life-style. The perceived evils of the earth and people on the planet are seen as being near to devils, and only by mortification can the PTSD find release from presumed entrapment (ref. Roberts, William R.; Penk, W. E.; Gearing, M. L.; Robinowitz, R.; Dolan, M. P.; Patterson, E. T. (1982). “Interpersonal problems of Vietnam combat veterans with symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder.” doi. 10.1037/0021-843X.91.6.44. Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Vol 91(6), Dec 1982, 444-450).

Mortification and harm to the body is the sign of mental illness, and those who practice it out what they consider to be religious zeal, are excusing their masochism under the guise of religiosity.  Masochism is the surrender to a dominant authority, and when the authority is one in religion, the religion becomes a god by itself and the individual surrenders personal identity and individual growth.  Masochists seek to atone for transgressions by accepting abuse of any nature by anyone in a position of authority, especially in religion (ref. Inbar, Yoel; Pizarro, David A.; Gilovich, Thomas; Ariely, Dan (2012). “Moral Masochism: On the Connection Between Guilt and Self-Punishment.” doi: 10.1037/10029749. Emotion, September 17).  If the one being punished is attacked by the religious authority, the victim sees himself or herself as being a surrogate for the artificial Christ in Mel Gibson’s fantasy “The Passion of Christ” (ref. Hoffman, Thomas (2005). “Freud and Gibson: ‘A child is being beaten’ and the Passion of Christ”. doi: 10.1037/0736-9735.22.1.107. Psychoanalytic Psychology, Vol 22(1), 2005, 107-112).  Such actions, especially being the subject of abuse or mortification, frequently are surrogates for repressed sexual desires, and lead to unbalanced thinking and the rejection of self-actualization and give way to masochistic fantasies and frequently have masochistic-themed dreams (cf. Silverstein, Judith L. (1994). “Power and sexuality: Influence of early object relations.” doi: 10.1037/h0079513. Psychoanalytic Psychology, Vol 11(1), 33-46; cp. Giles Tremlett of The Guardian

Escrivá is a prime example of the Janus complex of faith, as detailed by British journalist Giles Tremlett, who wrote: “biographies of Escrivá have produced conflicting visions of the saint as either a loving, caring charismatic person or a mean-spirited, manipulative egoist” (Giles Tremlett, “Sainthood beckons for priest linked to Franco“, The Guardian (UK), 5 October 2002).  French historian Édouard de Blaye concurred with Tremlett’s analysis noting that Escrivá was a “mixture of mysticism and ambition” (Blaye, Edouard de. (1976), Franco and the Politics of Spain, Harmondsworth, England: Penguin Books, p. 262).  All

Escrivá with Pope John XXIII

biographers have noted that Escrivá labored to be a part of the world and exercise the strengths that he and his discipleship had, but remained torturously tied to Roman Catholicism that unleashed the schizophrenia in his mind, as Spanish architect Miguel Fisac, who was one of the earliest members of Opus Dei who remained close to Escrivá for nearly twenty years before breaking with him and Opus Dei, gave in his summation–a very different picture of Escrivá than what John Paul II wanted the public to read.

Miguel Fisac

Fisac painfully detailed the obscure mentality of what many considered to be a pious man who in secluded times and places and even at times in public was a vain, secretive, and ambitious man, given to private displays of violent temper.  Fisac wrote that this split personality lead the self-sacrificed soul to demonstrate or offer little charity towards others or genuine concern for the poor who he claimed he served and loved (Fisac, Miguel (1992).  “Nunca le oí hablar bien de nadie”, in Escrivá de Balaguer – ¿Mito o Santo? (Madrid: Libertarias Prodhufi).  Using this criteria, neither Escrivá nor John Paul II would qualify as saints.

While many theists attempt to make humanism a theology, it is not.  Humanism glorifies the magnificence of mortals and what they do for others, their community, and the world, for whom a god is not necessary.  When this is the case any and all gods are ignored along with the various strains of theology that support deities. At the same time, while not wishing to waste moments speculating on that which cannot be known or determined scientifically, humanists do not preoccupy their time with speculation for or against the existence of such a being as a god.  Like Stephen Hawking, the true humanist concentrates on what can be determined and see in such wondrous evolutionary epochs as the unrecorded time of the Big Bang, the emergence of black holes that consume stars and universes, and the unabridged expansion of the universe (Stephen W. Hawking (1990). A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes. New York, NY: Bantam Books; I am using the Spanish edition: Historia del Tiempo del Big Bang a los Agujeros Negros (trans. Miguel Ortuño, esp. p. 180-181, chapter 8 as the English edition is not available here).

“God” is but a symbol of the powers of the individual.  It is the individual who creates god, not god creates the mortal.

Stephen Hawking and Benedict XVI

Even though Pope John Paul II warned the renowned astrophysicist and Cambridge scholar not to research too deeply into the origins of the universe, the professor ignored the pontiff and continued his investigation–upsetting many in the Roman Catholic and other religious communities (read here and here).  Hawking quoted the pope as saying, “It’s OK to study the universe and where it began. But we should not inquire into the beginning itself because that was the moment of creation and the work of God.”  Later, Hawking noted, no god was necessary to start the universe or anything within it. Gravity and collision did that. Hawking found a slightly more cordial greeting with Benedict XVI.  No friend of “modernism” nor liberty of the individual and individual thought, Benedict XVI, who has been charged with crimes against humanityat the World Court at the Hague, leagued with royalty as had past popes to silence dissent as with

Hans Kung, senior Swiss Roman Catholic theologian officially silenced by the Roman Catholic Church

The German pope has come out against those who differ with him, and demands obedience in all things, including the closure of schools and societies (such as the Society of St. Pius X), and has written a book on the infancy of Jesus–for which there are no historical records but is conjured from old myths and pseudo-apocrypha secreted in questionable Pseudepigrapha.  The German pope also wants to restore the Latin Mass (that had kept millions of people away from the worship service and sent millions more seeking a more modern responsive church) and a free standing altar (that permits priests to face the people), use of pop[ular] music and guitars, and banishing women from actively participating in the rites and rituals of the church and silence opponents, especially gifted scholars and researchers like Hans Küng who criticized the pope as isolated and out of touch with reality as did Cardinal Martini of Milan who told reporters that the Roman Catholic Church is 200 years out-dated; Küng furthermore accused Pope Benedict of direct responsibilty for “engineering the global cover-up of child rape perpetrated by priests“, and others who are still entitled to opinions no matter how wrong they are when faced with facts (cf. Küng, Hans (2007). Umstrittene Wahrheit. München, Deutschland: Piper, and Kung, Hans (1988). Theologie im Aufbruch: eine okumenische Grundlegung. München, Deutschland: Piper).

Benedict XVI crusades for a return to a pre-Vatican II church

Benedict’s attacks on free and universal education, secular education, and definition of who is qualified to teach further limits individual choice, the ability to conduct research unhampered, and the degradation of scholarly debate ending individual intellectual advances.  It is tantamount to returning to the days when the Roman Catholic Church tried Galileo for affirming the thesis of Copernicus, and marks the current pontificate as a return to the Dark Ages when god ruled cruelly over all people as a tyrant and not a benefactor or protector.

Hesiod: Theogony

Benedict uses outdated theology yet expects total conformity to what he has ordained as definitive, silencing dissent. Even the ancient Greeks recorded that the gods were created by mortals (Hesiod, Theogony).  Socrates did not believe in any god, but visited the Oracles as required by law–before Athens City Council demanded he die: drinking hemlock, on the charge of insulting the gods.

Mortals create gods to explain what they are too lazy to discover for themselves.  It is the irresponsibility of mortals, like most students who do not enjoy reading or read for knowledge, to seek the easiest escape from having to think.  Most people want a job with the least work, like students who do as little as possible to  obtain recognition (a degree or a position).  What is sought is immediate gratification that is sought out not a long-term enlightenment.  This occurs because teachers do not challenge students sufficiently.  Teachers do not constantly demand questions and answers from their charges for fear of dismissal, yet demand that their students pass rigorous state-sponsored examinations without having learned the information required.  This is the modus operandi of organized religion: follow others, do not question, just obey. Blind obedience by indoctrination is stifled propagandization and it is child abuse, regardless if the indoctrination is done by parent, teacher who makes a major impact on a student as the teacher is seen as the fountain of knowledge and corrupt the learning process (cf. Torrance, E. Paul; Mason, Raigh (1958). “Instructor effort to influence: An experimental evaluation of six approaches.”doi: 10.1037/hoo47830. Journal of Educational Psychology, Vol 49(4), Aug 1958, 211-218 and Torrance, E. Paul; Mason, Raigh (1958). “Instructor effort to influence: An experimental evaluation of six approaches.” doi:10.1037/h0047830. Journal of Educational Psychology, Vol 49(4), August, 211-218), military leader (Johnson, W. Brad; Wilson, Ken (1993). “The military internship: A retrospective analysis.” doi.10.1037/0735-7028.24.3.312. Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, Vol 24(3), August, 312-318) especially when it is covert racism or pits race against its own ethnicity (Loo, Chalsa M.; Singh, Karam; Scurfield, Ray; Kilauano, Bill (1998). “Race-related stress among Asian American veterans: A model to enhance diagnosis and treatment.” doi:10.1037/ 1099-9809.4.2.75. Cultural Diversity and Mental Health, Vol 4(2), 75-90), clergy, or others to insure conformism (Kuenzli, Alfred (1952). “Conformism in Contemporary Psychology.” doi:10.1037/h0053921. American Psychologist, Vol 7(10), Oct 1952, 594-595). Collective (or group) indoctrination, especially in the case of religion, can lead to selective or collective suicides, murders, rapes, and other acts of violence in times of conflict, war, and doctrinal disputations (Grimland, Meytal; Apter, Alan; Kerkhof, Ad (2006). “The phenomenon of suicide bombing: A review of psychological and nonpsychological factors”  doi:10.1027/0227- 5910.27.3.107.  Crisis: The Journal of Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention, Vol 27(3), 107-118).

Many students remain mere shadows of what potential they could have and become if they furthered the advance of their mind and worked to better their civilization by rejecting old gods and worn-thin truths to be responsive to new ideas and arguments.  Students at every age are eager to obtain a score that is recognizable and laudable, but few students have the willingness (although many do have the capacity) to study independently, read broadly and thoroughly, write copiously,  and question authority.  This is a reality learned as small children tied to priest, pastor, rabbi, mullah or other authority figures in the world’s religions as it is easier to memorize and repeat that which is expected than to proffer new concepts and dispute established facts.  Unfortunately leaders are seldom (if ever) examined for leadership qualities and sound psychology, as seen with the election of the last two popes and the first two presidents of the USA, most South American nations (especially in Perú),  or prime ministers in the UK, in the 1980-1990 period (cp. Lambert, Lisa Schurer; Tepper, Bennett J.; Carr, Jon C.; Holt, Daniel T.; Barelka, Alex J. (2012). “Forgotten but not gone: An examination of fit between leader consideration and initiating structure needed and received.” doi: 10.1037/a0028970. Journal of Applied Psychology, Vol 97(5), Sep 2012, 913-930).

Ancient Assyria: home of the myth of Daniel

Authority figures, especially those who promise peace in times of conflict, or suggest that learning takes a different avenue when academic standards are diminished, know that it is easier to indoctrinate than educate, and for that reason all theologies and all religions start off with texts written by an authority figure (a deity, plural or singular): either with his/her/their hand or finger, as found in the Babylonian myth of Daniel and His Companions that was copied into the canon of the Old Testament (Daniel 5:5).  The account of lions was a symbol of ancient Assyria where a pair of lions were stationed at the entrance of an Assyrian temple dedicated to Ishtar, the goddess of warfare, and fertility: Daniel was understood to be a portrayal of the people, and the lions guardians of sexuality and sexual pleasure.

The Ishtar gate (the Lion Gate) was the eighth gate to the inner city of Babylon

The Daniel myth began as pornography but was later sanitized and made “wholesome” by adding subjection to the will of the gods (accepting sex) but was redacted in its present format hundreds of years after the original writing by Assyria’s mercenary soldiers (Apiru–who become the Hebrews) and was  later plagiarized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Book of Mormon (Alma 10:2-3).  Both tracts give answers that others refuse to speculate on: a mythological happening that has no proof and original documentation to support the story.  This leads to mental collapse rather than vigorous inquiry, as the student is exhausted quickly if not accustomed to the rigors and riches of real research that demands investigation, analysis, and projection.

Knowledge is both desirable and despised.  This truism has been recorded as a fact for over 5000 years, as learning has become private property of wealthy interests and education has transmogrified into elevating the id of ownership and partisanship over objectivity as seen in the dramatic case of the censorship of Hans Küng of Switzerland, and the rise of  pseudo-scholars such as Stephen C. Meyer, David Barton, Bob Vander Plaats, and other revisionists who lack any credentials.  Much of this temerarious in dishabille of education is because of the lack of desire to achieve more than what is expected; to this end trite and barren words are repetitively used, vocabulary is underdeveloped, thinking truncated to that which is accepted by authority figures, and the conduct of inquiry abandoned for a cheap and worthless grade.  This is especially true in languages, interpretation and translation courses, and the study of roots and origins of words and concepts.

In Genesis (3:4-5), “woman” (Arabic: امرأة, Greek: γυναίκα, Hebrew: אישה, Armenian: կին that refers to a helpmate), and later “man” (3:22; Arabic: رجل, Greek άνθρωπος, Hebrew גבר, Armenian մարդ) is promised knowledge but forbidden to sample it (eat the forbidden “fruit”–a word for obtaining an education–of the Tree of Knowledge). This is Teutonic (in the broad sense

Tree of Knowledge from an Assyrian cylinder, showing its god-priests

primordially antediluvian) religion: offering the temptation but rejecting any attempt to obtain what is extended by a Tempter or Temptress. The mythological Eve was actually the superior being (far surpassing the cowering man), arguing scripture (before it was written, thereby demonstrating that Genesis was written after the Torah so that “she” could incorporate parts within her debate) with the “Serpent” (Ide, Arthur Frederick (1982). Woman in ancient Israel under the Torah and Talmud, with a translation and critical commentary on Genesis 1-3. Mesquite, TX: IHP). The watchman faulted the man, reflecting the patriarchy of the time, but man, weak and obsequious to the authority figure blamed the superior and copacetic woman for the transgression that the Serpent knew would free mortals.

The Serpent, in all ancient religions, is the Guardian (and sometimes the author) of Knowledge.  The Serpent is the greatest of the gods for it is λογος , from λέγω lego “I say”: meaning the voice of god or wisdom–god was never considered in the earliest days a divine mortal but a teacher) than the garden keeper, or watchman, who walked through the garden in quest of delinquents who were stealing that which was forbidden: knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:17, a reference to peace and strife or conflict: the unquestioning acceptance of gods or the rejection (conflict) with superstition that comes with ignorance from lack of learning and obtaining knowledge).

If the garden keeper was a god, that deity in the denizen of superior beings (man and woman) had no god-like characteristics but was more like the ancient pontifex maximus of pre-Republic Rome.  The watchman was not omniscience, omnipresence, or omnipotent.  At best the watchman was an interrogator in quest of information that the watchman failed to note.  The prowess the watchman did not possess belonged to the mortals who learned by “eating the forbidden fruit” that was, by various definitions: an apple (the fruit appears nowhere in Genesis, and its first use is in Proverbs 25:11 in referring to apples of gold in a setting of silver; more significantly, in the sexually charged and erotic Song of Solomon the apple is an erotic symbol indicating sweetness, desire, and the female breast), a pomegranate (going back to Greek mythology), a fig, the carob (the word is a pun for “destruction”), an etrog (in Hebrew a pun on ragag, “desire” or sexual arousement) or citron, grapes (that made Noah drunk and sin) and a pear, and, more recently, the datura and grapefruit; wheat is also denounced by some as a forbidden fruit as it was/is used in making beer and is khitah in Hebrew and thus a pun on khet, “sin” (Genesis 2:16-17;  however, in the Qur’an both Adam and Eve are considered equally culpable: Surah Al-A’raf 7:19-22): a euphemism for study, debate, dialog, and mastery of information.  This “fruit” (פרי a word for “result” or “gain” as in the obtaining of wisdom from the “Tree of Knowledge” another euphemism for “learning center” since a tree was the base and to advance in knowledge the student had to climb into the branches–taking a risk to obtain enlightenment) was only relinquished in exchange for a more placid and less commanding life that ignorance affords: no teachers, no debate, no dialog, no learning required, no questioning demanded; all that was necessary was blind obedience.

Iraq’s Garden of Eden marshes in 2003

The ignorance of the watchman (one of the many אֱלֹהִ֔ים) in the garden comes to fruition when the servant of the Serpent realizes that mortals no longer need a god (a trickster who offers mortals an immediate gratification rather than the ability and encouragement to progress to understanding) and conduct themselves as equal to any savant or sage such as the Serpent. This causes the guard to regret “creating” (actually watching after) mortals and in an hysterical fit vows vengeance and promises to erase all trace

of his mistake  (Genesis 6:5 ff) with a giant holocaust: a Great Flood.  The actual text notes that the Serpent god does not make mistakes:  The Serpent as the teacher instructs, debates and weighs what the student says.  It is the watchmen who fell asleep, misjudged the wards he was to oversee, and failed in numerous way (Genesis 3:9, proving the absence of knowledge by asking “Where are you?” as well as admitting the lack of omniscience and other godly attributes that come with learning).

Ur of the Chaldees outside of Eden (fertile crescent in Iraq)

It is only after the slaughter of the innocents in the Great Flood that the watchman steps down (Genesis 9:5, 11) and realizes that mortal are equals (Psalm 8:5, plagiarized by the writers of Hebrews 2:7).  This action takes place only after the mortals (people, not one man plus one woman–a mistranslation carried since 331 CE) questioning the watchman with the protestation of the Akkadian created myth of

People of Ur worshiped the moon and a golden calf

Abraham (from the Ur of Chaldees: (אוּר כַּשְׂדִים) in modern day Iraq) accusing the gardener/watchman of violating his own principles: “That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18:25 KJV).

Even the ancient Jews knew that the Law was not written in heaven.  It was commonly understood that mortals wrote the Torah, not Moses, as no mortal could write of his own death and burial (Deuteronomy 3:23-29; Numbers 27:15-23), but by man.  This was forcefully articulated by Rabbi Jirmijahu who told a congregation of rabbis (teachers) that it was no longer essential to pay attention to the voices from heaven “because it is written: You make your decision according to the majority opinion.” (Talmud, Baba Meziah, 59b).

Humanism demands democratic methods, unlike the totalitarian plutocracy that the reprehensible Congresista Martha Chavez attempted to create as a permanent government in Perú for the scandalous rogue and mass murderer Alberto Fujimori, his graft-accepting colleague and chief spy and extortionist Vladimiro Montesinos, and their death squads of Las Colinas who murdered children, students and teachers without any compassion.  It surprised many that the thoroughly corrupt and contemptible Peruvian Supreme Court, led by the monstrously mercenary court President César San Martin, in a 3-2 decision, cut back their prison time in a distorted and unjustifiable act of compassion. The Perú court ultimately overturned its own ruling and annulled the diminution of the sentences after a public outcry.  What happened with justice in Perú proves that there is no justice in Perú until the people make their voices heard. Power, wealth, and authority speaks louder than fairness, ethical treatment, or responsibility for what is right for the churches in Perú control its politics, police, and government–the people of Perú are as impoverished today as were the Inkas after the arrival of Pizzaro and his band of Franciscans, Dominicans, and other cut-throats and brigands.

Jesus with weapons on evangelical mailings

Today the Christian churches have nothing in common with the teachings of the Jesus of the New Testament.  Simple statements such as “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9) are smothered under the bellicose promises of Matthew 10:34: Μὴ νομίσητε ὅτι ἦλθον βαλεῖν εἰρήνην ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν· οὐκ ἦλθον βαλεῖν εἰρήνην ἀλλὰ μάχαιραν; the Latin Biblia Sacra Vulgata reads: nolite arbitrari quia venerim mittere pacem in terram non veni pacem mittere sed gladium.   Religion has become an increasingly prevalent neurosis. Instead of enabling people to think and be freed from their own grief and self-abasement, the majority of early followers of Jesus who were poor Am aarez (slaves) the Imperial “catholic [universal] church” of Constantine I was reserved for the wealthy that continued to enslave the poor and rule over them as authority figures once they were entrenched as the guardians of the new state (military imposed)

religion (325 CE).  Ultimately the authority figures claimed to be intercessors of Constantine’s god, the beginning of numerous lies pushed on the believers that culminated in the nineteenth century when at Vatican Council I, Pius IX was acclaimed a god: infallible, primary, and supreme in matters of faith and morals, removing the last of free will from the people and furthering the

neurosis of those who claimed to be Roman Catholic.  Infallibility was heatedly contested, but papal politics played passionately among dissenters, many of whom won promotions and a few the cardinal’s hat.  Those who suffered were those struggling to understand reality through thorough investigation and study and did not accept the novel idea that a mortal was as infallible as a god. Dissent was not new in Constantine’s church, but the Doctrine of Infallibility intensified the debate that began in 325 CE at Nicaea.

First Council of Nicaea – 325 CE – Cannon 8 Concerns Cathars (the damned do not have halos)

After the notorious Council at Nicaea, the bishops began an open assault on dissent that would increase yearly to the present day.  The former pagan and later self-proclaimed bishop of Hippo: Augustine who had a child out of wedlock with a whore (and wrote to stifle intellectual growth, citing only established canons and writings that did not offend the empire, glorifying a city no one had visited and of which there was no empirical evidence, and harmonizing his rants with others who blasted dissent as attacks against the Imperial Church) attacked the monk Pelagius (ca. CE 354 – c. CE 420/440) an ascetic who opposed the idea of predestination championed by Augustine but received its greatest boost under the misrule of Jean Calvin in Geneva and John Knox in Scotland, and asserted a strong version of the doctrine of free will.

Pelagius of Wales

Pelagius, a tonsured Culdee Monk from the British Isles who was known as a dedicated ascetic,  was far more “Christian” than Augustine (cf. Pelagius. The Letters of Pelagius: Celtic Soul Friend; edited by Robert Van de Weyer. (Little Gidding books.) Evesham, UK: Arthur James, 1995, and Pelagius’s Expositions of the Thirteen Epistles of St. Paul; edited by A. Souter. (Texts and Studies; 9.) 3 vols. in 1. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press, 1922-1931 1: Introduction – 2: Text – 3: Pseudo-Jerome interpolations).  Pelagius argued that humans were not wounded by Adam’s sin (the eating of the fruit: the acceptance of knowledge) and were perfectly able to fulfill the law apart from any divine aid–a theme Augustine coveted and wrote at lengths on calling on “sinners” to perform good works (a thesis that Martin Luther would reject in the sixteenth century, when he followed Pelagius in arguing that all that a human needed was faith).  He denied the more specific doctrine of original sin as developed by Augustine, but was declared a heretic and felt the weight of the church crush him, while the writings of Arius were burned at the feet of the Emperor.

While Pelagius encouraged studying and intellectual growth (he was fluent in Greek, Latin, and theology, and was even called “saintly” by Augustine) to rid oneself of being robots to rigid religion, Augustine wanted blind faith and good works that increased the wealth of the church and set clerics apart from those they served.

Tridentine Index defined three basic classes of prohibited books

Burning books and silencing dissent is always the sign of tyranny–one that the Roman Catholic Church elevated to an art with its Index of Forbidden Books.  Censorship is not scholarship but a sign of a threatened institution determined to maintain its prerogatives and rule over others by lowering standards and forbidding true scholarship and the conduct of inquiry.  Discovery of the self, the very foundation of psychology and psychoanalysis, was forbidden and mortals have ever since 325 CE been commanded by priests and potentates to follow the rigorous writing of self-proclaimed leaders of “the church”.  The acceptance of definitive forms of censorship, such as book burning, is a collective adherence by an irrational society to drab and erroneous beliefs or doctrines and leads to the lowering of expectations, desires to advance, and rejection of sound scholarship that is especially true in nations and states under religious control (Jahoda, Marie (1956).  “Psychological Issues in Civil Liberties.” American Psychologist, 11, 1956, pp. 234-240).  While Donofrio concurs in part with Jahoda (Donofrio, Anthony F. (1957). “Conformity–Good and Bad”. doi: 10.1037/h0047469. American Psychologist, Vol 12(1), Jan 1957, 37-38), he attacks “liberals” as being nearly anarchists who reject all conformity in government, religion, and other places where rules maintain civility; this I disagree with because rules are valid only for specific times since eternality is not possible for any mortal and thus there must be revisions to constitutions, laws, applications, and so forth as time grows and with it there must be a modification, change, or deletion in rules (something that Antonin Scalia disagrees with emphatically, claiming that the wording of the Constitution of the USA is chiseled in stone and cannot be deviated from: a reason he, like Texas Governor Rick Perry, want to eliminate the 14th and 17th amendment from the US Constitution).  If rules do not change, then Jews, Christians and others who pattern themselves after the Torah and Prophets cannot eat shell fish, wear mixed fibers (such as rayon), and so forth. This will stifle society and intellectual growth.  Similarly, Drenth (Drenth, Pieter J. D. (1993). “Prometheus chained: Social and ethical constraints on psychology”. doi: 10.1027//1016-9040.4.4233.  European Psychologist. Vol. 4(4) December, 233-239), argues that the psychologist and other researchers do not have the freedom to amass knowledge at any price and without any restrictions.  Again, I disagree, as when knowledge is guarded, limited, denied, then society and individuals cannot intellectually, morally, or socially evolve to a high plateau.

In the early days of reformed Judaism that had been the faith of those who proclaimed themselves followers of Jesus, presbyters and women priests nourished and watch grow a strong anti-authoritarian principle especially against political power rejected the “church.  This changed in 325 CE, when bishops were ordered to be men (although there were women bishops in the Roman Catholic Church as late as the fifteenth century) and the term “church” was not used by the embryonic community.  The earliest followers of Jesus referred to their meeting places in gardens, alleys and private homes as αρχοντικού, Κυριάκος (lord’s house) where meetings were held to celebrate life (Matthew 18:20), not to recite prayers and endow the pockets of priests and bishops. What few records exist, these followers were more humanists than religious disciples, as their goal was to help the poor, feed the hungry, give drink to those who had thirst, comfort those who grieved, and fulfill the injunctions given in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).  All that mattered was that they loved each other regardless of gender or other outward qualifiers (John 13:34-35: [34] ἐντολὴν καινὴν δίδωμι ὑμῖν ἵνα ἀγαπᾶτε ἀλλήλους, καθὼς ἠγάπησα ὑμᾶς ἵνα καὶ ὑμεῖς ἀγαπᾶτε ἀλλήλους. [35] ἐν τούτῳ γνώσονται πάντες ὅτι ἐμοὶ μαθηταί ἐστε, ἐὰν ἀγάπην ἔχητε ἐν ἀλλήλοις).  Marriage was a private celebration and not a part of the church; sacraments had not yet been defined.  What counted was to be charitable with and toward all people.  There was no rush to martyrdom–that is a later invention; there was no priestly hierarchy (Matthew 20:16) and there was no pope.  Emphasis was on each person reaching his or her fullest potential.

While the early Jesus communities in Rome, Antioch, Jerusalem, Alexandria, and elsewhere were satisfied with meeting in Κυριάκος (homes filled with the lord [spirit]), with the rise of an exclusive and exclusionary state religion it became “church” or εκκλησία.  Church/ecclesia meant “gathering of those summoned” and represented a court or at least an assembly or law court/government as found in ancient Sparta and other Greek states, Rome and throughout the Roman Empire.  With the formal support of the Emperor, the “church” (ecclesia: εκκλησία) was elevated to novel level of being where “bishops” sat (cathedrals) to sit in judgment against heretics—in total contradiction to Matthew 7:1 and Acts 10:34.  By 331 CE, any semblance of Christianity to the teaching of Jesus were obscured, transmogrified, or deleted.  Books, scrolls and tracts denouncing the abandonment of the message of the New Testament Jesus were publicly burned.  Those who dared question the authority of the Church faced Socrates fate by state or church.  Numerous popular and widely copied and read gospels were refused canon (authenticity) including major gnostic works: Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Peter, Gospel of Judas, Gospel of Mary Magdalene, and so forth.

As the church grew in power, freedom diminished, and popular delusions, illusions, hysterics and signs of mental illness appeared with “talking in tongues” that were gibberish and not the Glossolalia in the Jerusalem community where the brothers of Jesus followed the beloved brother James and their mother, Mary, sat with the Apostles in the upper room and received (or realized) the ability to “speak in the tongue of each person who had gathered” with them (Acts 2:1-11).  The “descent of the Spirit” was an opening to learning, in this case simple language so that all people could understand (The Greeks recognized five languages but 70 “tongues” or dialects–so the speaking was not difficult as most of the people understood some form of Greek; it was similar to an elementary language course at most universities).  The Church in Rome created a new universal language–Latin–that few of the poor or those enslaved understood: it was the lingua franca (or working language of the wealthy that kept them apart from the people), and thus the Mass became a “mystery rite” and the sacraments were born where blind faith was required if a person was to be saved.

With this reinvention of religion as a rope to strangle dissenters—an act that took place regularly with state sanction.  All aspects of divinity were exchanged for writs of power and tyranny.

Constantine’s Christianity quickly became an exercise in mind control.  Constantine’s bishops and priests theological terrorists demanding blind obedience in everything, similar to the autocracy of John Nienstedt bishop of St Paul / Minneapolis, and the German Pope Josef Ratzinger.

As the minority (the new Christians) gained in power, the masses of believers were forced into subjection.  This subjection led to the spread of acute mental malaise.

Worship became a punishment if prayers were not recited carefully and according to religious rubrics.  Striving to select one’s own destiny was forbidden under penalty of death (a penalty realized with the forced introduction of the unholy Inquisition, that was abandoned until it was restored by Joseph Ratzinger (read here and here  and here and here).

Individuals became dependent upon the Roman Catholic Church for everything from food and drink to psychological comforting from sadistic and dominating authoritarian structures.  Given the impoverishment of the economy the early reformed Jews accepted the novel title of “Christian” (a word that suggested a magician) and role of masochists bowing to the greater authority of bishops who replaced presbyters and with their submission accepted their own mental collapse to the point of losing basic motor skills including speech as speech was not welcomed unless voices were raised in prayer and praise.  The poor were told that Jesus wanted people to follow a man, misquoting a mistranslation of Matthew 16:18, and relate only to the power source: priests and bishops.

Giving up the need to relate oneself to and with others is a classic form of insanity (Erich Fromm (1950). Psychoanalysis and Religion. (New Haven, CT and London, England: Yale University Press, p. 54).  This classic form of insanity, the inability to relate to others outside of the self, led to the invention of saints and the worship and adoration, clothing and anointing, bestowing of flowers upon or around statues of various people the official church considered holy.  Many of these were declared to be “virgins” (a mistranslation of people who had not engaged in coital intercourse; the word means a young girl or a young boy in most situations–as with Mary the mother of Jesus, who the church Greek styles as παρθένος and is later styled Μήτηρ Θεοῦ or Mother of God, a term originally used 3000 years earlier as a reference to the goddess Isis)–who had other sons (Acts 1:14) disproving the claims that Mary remained “ever virgin” (Coogan, Michael (October 2010). God and Sex: What the Bible Really Says (1st ed.). New York, NY and Boston, MA: Twelve. Hachette Book Group. p. 39; Tabor, James D. (2006). The Jesus Dynasty: The Hidden History of Jesus, His Royal Family, and the Birth of Christianity. New York, NY and other cities: Simon) & Schuster, pp. 46-47, 73-75 sqq). Sex is a part of the psychology or all living beings; the Christian God is conceived of as a God of love, and chastity and continence are regarded as states of perfection, yet sexual fulfillment and experience is a part of self-actualization and leads to a normal and psychologically balanced life as there exists a connection between the emotions of affection and love, on the one hand, and sexual activity on the other; to that end Moses and most of the Prophets had wives and sex, and led to Coptic writers of the fourth century CE to pen that Jesus had a wife.

Sex is a normal function and experience for all people.  To deny anyone sexual expression and pleasure is tantamount to denying its normality and claiming sex is abnormal and dangerous to the psyche of the individual (Leuba, James H. (1924). “The sex impulse in Christian mysticism”. doi: 10.1037/hoo65o91. The Journal of Abnormal Psychology and Social Psychology, Vol 19(4), January 1924, 357-372).  A reading of St. Teresa of Avila’s Interior Castlereveals

subliminal references to sex as with her comment “my heart was pierced and I felt strangely warmed” (a phrase used later in Wesleyan theology) that the sculpture Bernini captured in marble.  The Interior Castle also has the pregnant line: “Here also forces of evil are felt more deeply” with illustrative phraseology defining penetration. Studies show that the younger the person is who engages in sex tends to have a negative attitude toward sex if it was abusive or unwelcomed by a older person/parental figure, and lowers psychosocial adjustment in selected domains in young adulthood and inhibits educational quests and mastery of attaining knowledge (Haase, Claudia M.; Landberg, Monique; Schmidt, Christoph; Lüdke, Kirsten; Silbereisen, Rainer K. (2012). “The later, the better? Early, average, and late timing of sexual experiences in adolescence and psychological adjustment in young adulthood.”doi: 10.1027/1016-9040/a000082. European Psychologist, Vol 17(3), 2012, 199-212).  The only plausible excuse to avoid sexual intercourse is if the penetration was traumatic and unwelcomed (Petry, Nancy M.; Ford, Julian D.; Barry, Danielle (2011). “Contingency management is especially efficacious in engendering long durations of abstinence in patients with sexual abuse histories.” doi: 10.1037/a0022632. Psychology of Addictive Behaviors, Vol 25(2), Jun 2011, 293-300); there is no record in any sanctioned gospel that Mary approved or rejected the sexual advance of god (similar to the rape of Europa by the god Zeus in the form of a bull, etc.) and follows numerous far older legends from Crete to Egypt and the Middle East.  To deny the reality of sex and its desirability is to reject the psychology of mortal beings.

By cherishing the virgins, lkerwanderung (wandering, or migration, of the peoples), and enforced celibacy, Europe nearly extinguished itself until the absence of labor forces required the church to reinvent the rubric on celibacy and chastity only for those men and women who took positions in the church hierarchy (holy orders)—even though there were no less than 38 married popes (Jean Mathieu-Rosay (1991).  La véritable histoire des papes. Paris, France: Grancher; Rendina, Claudio (1983).  I Papi, Storia e Segreti: dalle biografie dei 264 romani ponteficirivivono retroscena e misteri della cattedra di Pietro tra antipapi, giubilei, conclavi e concili ecumenici. Roma: Newton & Campton, p. 589), and at least eleven homosexual popes, many of whom raised their male lovers to the cardinalate (Burkle-Young, Francis A., and Doerrer, Michael Leopold (1997). The Life of Cardinal Innocenzo del Monte: A Scandal in Scarlet, Lewiston, NY: Edwin Mellen). Education declined with the rise of scriptorum that copied deteriorating texts and inserting words, phrases, and sentences that were out of character with the author and now found to be falsifications by contemporary scholars, as with the claim by the Roman Catholic Church that Tacitus argued for the person Jesus of the New Testament, and other ancients, such as Josephus, gave evidence to support the existence, life and ministry of Jesus.  Education further deteriorated with emphasis on memorizing the Bible, and the rejection of science, mathematics, and secular arts (Pierre Riché, Education and Culture in the Barbarian West: From the Sixth through the Eighth Century, (Columbia: University of South Carolina Press, 1976), pp. 100-129, 307-323).

Rationalize behavior is the counterfeit of reason and is a form of paranoia.  Rationalization has no place in psychoanalysis or psychology as it denies some facts and taints others thereby not giving a true picture of what happened or what the mind was thinking.  People, like cattle, follow a leader; this is known as herd psychology and is a form of mental illness as the German people exhibited from 1933 to 1955 spanning the years of Hitler whom most ignored but did understand what was happening—and said nothing.  With racism rampant in the USA, people excused the KKK not for excess but for outcome: the slaughter of Black people, Jews, LGBT people, and marginalized minorities (Brown, S. (1921). “The herd instinct”. doi: 10.1037/h0072279. The Journal of Abnormal Psychology and Social Psychology,Vol 16(4), October-November, 232-242.; MacCurdy, J. T. (1921). “Synthetic view of ego, herd, and sex instincts”. doi: 10.1037/h0075069. The Journal of Abnormal Psychology and Social Psychology, Vol 16(4), October-November, 249-268.  Also see the problems of collective behavior: Swann Jr., William B.; Jetten, Jolanda; Gómez, Ángel; Whitehouse, Harvey; Bastian, Brock (2012). “When group membership gets personal: A theory of identity fushion”. doi: 10.1037/a0028589. Psychological Review, Vol 119(3), July, 441-456. The problem with collective behavior is the character (strength and weakness) of the leader, as detailed by Johnson, Russell E.; Venus, Merlijn; Lanaj, Klodiana; Mao, Changguo; Chang, Chu-Hsiang (2012). “Leader Identity as an Antecedent of the Frequency and Consistency of Transformational, Consideration, and Abusive Leadership Behaviors”. doi: 10.1037/a0029043. Journal of Applied Psychology, Jun 25 , 2012).

Both psychoanalysis and psychology are applicable to an understanding the facts as they occur and in the order that they occur.   When a person attempts to rationalize behavior it is essential to minutely investigate the rationalization to obtain a complete understanding of the individual and what happened.  This seldom occurs, and mental illness grows especially among those most hate-filled, such as the Tea Party, the Birthers and the men and women who are violently anti-Latino/Latina in Arizona in the twenty-first century and are opposed to all Middle Easterners as if they all were Muslims and jihadists.  The psychoanalytic approach to religion must work at understanding mortal reality behind thought systems. It must understand emotional matrices from which opinions develop and determine the strength or weakness of those opinions.  Rick Perry’s mass hysteria at his Day of Prayer shows the significance many feel when they are a collective group and cannot be held responsible for what they do or how they act.

Many of those who are preoccupied with concepts of the soul declare that they find living difficult.  This is a reflex towards uncertainty and the fear that if they live in any way that is not ordained by religion they will go to some imaginary uncomfortable place such as purgatory or hell—which for those in hot lands is a place of eternal fire, but in winter-cold lands is a place of ice.

Pope Paul V forced Jews into a ghetto that flooded regularly

Jews were especially singled out as “Christ killers”.  Jews were restricted to ghettos (the giudecca), work variances at lower wages, and discussion with Christians (save for the “opportunity of conversion”–which many did to escape drudgery of life and poor living conditions, but continued their Jewish celebrations at night in the darkness of their homes and in whispers). The papal Bull Cum Nimis Absurdum created a second ghetto known as Vicus Iudacorum in Rome, consisting of a few narrow, dirty, and unhealthful streets that soon became painfully overcrowded.  The ghetto was an intentional, understood by the pope and curia, and the Christians of Rome as a death trap as it was flooded each year by the Tiber.  As the Jewish population grew, the only way to accommodate it was to build taller and taller buildings, which shut out the light in the narrow streets.  The Jews were restricted from learning as learning was memorizing the New Testament (primarily the writings of Paul), but in the evenings, Jewish families read and recited the Torah (first five books ascribed to Moses created the preface for the Old Testament; they are followed by the writing/sayings of the later Prophets).  On the Jewish Sabbath, the Jews of the Rome ghetto were forced to hear Catholic sermons and recite Catholic prayers under penalties ranging from excessive fines and beatings to death of the one not praying and his or her family.  With the advent of Protestantism (that also turned against the Jews), the corpus Christianorum (body of all believers in Christ [Jesus]) became even more violent and exclusionary toward Jews, with Pope Paul V(17 September 1552 – 28 January 1621), born Camillo Borghese, issuing, on February 26, 1569, the Bull Hebraeorum gens sola. This nefarious document restricted Jews in the Papal States to Rome and Ancona.  Hebraeorum gens sola was made more painful with the printing of Caeca et Obdurata Hebraeorum perfidia – (Blind and obdurate is the perfidy of the Hebrews) of February 25, 1593.  It expelled the Jews from all Papal states and territories other than Rome, Ancona and Avignon, and in particular from Bologna and several other cities.  Similar assaults on the Jewish population of Europe occurred in the North, as seen in the open hatred and antisemitism of Martin Luther and his preamble to the writing and legislation of Adolf Hitler:  Von den Juden und Ihren Lügen (On the Jews and Their Lies) and Vom Schem Hamphoras und vom Geschlecht Christi (Of the Unknowable Name and the Generations of Christ), being under the convert to Christianity, Anton Margaritha, who wrote the grotesque (a word that originated in ancient Greece as κρυφό (hidden place) that took the definition of κρύπτη  (crypt, meaning dark and forbidding) book Der gantze Jüdisch Glaub (The Whole Jewish Belief) whose book was discredited in 1530 leading to Margaritha’s expulsion from the Empire–but Luther used it anyway in the same manner Hitler used the works of Luther with the purpose of retrenching and destroying the conduct of inquiry similar to that of Bryan Fischer and the Tea Party in the USA that champions the unhistorical works of David Barton who has had no formal education in history, and the pseudo-science of Stephen C. Myer and his Intelligent Design Institute.

Hitler was supported by many western powers, including the United Kingdom and the USA with US Senator Prescott Bush helping to finance Hitler’s death camps (read here and here).  The UK refused refuge to Jewish emigrants, and boarded many on planes to Warsaw, Poland where they were arrested and sent to death camps.

While Europe was marginalizing Jews and proceeding down the path of ignorance, the same Jews, along with Muslims (who were Christians by day) maintained many ancient texts, including Plato and Aristotle along with Greek mathematicians and scientists, that the Roman Catholic Church was damning and consigning to the flames to erase “pagan influences” (Lebedel, Claude (2006), Les Croisades, origines et conséquences, Editions Ouest-France, p. 109).  For this reason, the Jews and Muslims of Europe rose to be the intellectual class, and by the seventeenth century began to number among the greatest authorities and authors of the age leading into the Age of Enlightenment from Baruch Spinoza (he later changed his name to Benedict de Spinoza (24 November 1632 – 21 February 1677) to .

What is essential is to enable the person distressed by the “difficulties of life” to understand that life is what the individual makes of it and how the individual perceives life.  In most cases, these difficulties are the result of an irrational fear of death—a fear generated by an uncertainty that there is a life after death even though the individual religious adherent professes to believe in a heaven or other-worldly place. To conquer this fear is to engage in a discussion on whether or not such a positive or negative place can be proven, and whether or not the test or provability even has value for living today.  Too many people suffer dread from that which no one has proof and that which cannot be proven.

Freud, Jung, Obama, Romney, Religion & the 2012 election

Sigmund Freud by Max Halberstadt, 1921

Sigmund Schlomo Freud (an Austrian neurologist who became known as the founding father of psychoanalysis; born 6 May 1856 in a rented room at a blacksmith’s house at Freiberg in Mähren, Moravia  (now part of the Czech Republic) to an extremely poor family – died 23 September 1939 in London, England at the age of 83) saw religion as an illusion. Freud used the word illusion (Täuschung is more precisely translated as “deception” indicating that religion was mortal-defined and not divine), claiming “[when the] mask is fallen: it leads to denial of God and of an ethical ideal” (Freud, Sigmund (1949). The Future of an Illusion. New York, NY: Liveright Publishing Company, p. 64; a German edition was published in London by Hogarth Press in cooperation with the London Institute of Psycho-analysis; it is in vol. 21 (1927-1931) of Freud’s Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud with Future of an Illusion being authored in 1927).  This quote, so often used, is not reflective of Freud’s opinion or his psychoanalysis.

In the original text, Freud argues that ethics are inherent and are not dependent on a deity, but on the quality of goodness a person learns in life. Freud’s full sentence, taking from the original text, reads: “The mask is fallen; it leads to the denial of God and of an ethical ideal, as indeed we have always supposed. To keep us from the discovery, we have been made to believe that psycho-analysis neither has, nor can have, a philosophical standpoint. [emphasis mine, to show what anti-Freudian thinkers delete deliberated to degrade what was written and meant]”.

Original page of Future of an Illusion 1927 (ms. in Library of Congress)

A linguist and philologist as well as medical doctor and philosopher, Sigmund Freud was proficient in German, French, Italian, Spanish, English (he read Shakespeare throughout his life), Hebrew, Latin and Greek.  Not once, in any of his writings did the Austrian founder of psychoanalysis deny an ethical ideal as motivating people.  While Freud had little time for the sophistry of organized religion and what he termed the fiction (or imagination) of a god or supernatural creator he was convinced of the immortality of ideas giving birth to natural ethics.

A Godless Jew by Peter Gay (Yale University Press)

Ethics, Freud argued, were learned and not the result of divine intercession or a code based on tablets, scrolls or other religious writing that were mandated

Auf der Ehrentrib ne begr át Hitler den evangelischen Reichsbischof: reason Freud fled Vienna for UK (religion supporting tyranny when Hitler met with the Reich’s bishops)

by some elusive, exclusive and exclusionary being. For that reason Freud has been libeled as “the godless Jew”–a phrase that did not cause the doctor any discomforture (he fled Nazi-occupied Vienna in 1938 at the age of 82)–he found it only half-true, as in his own writing he saw himself as “a completely Godless Jew“: one who was secular and related to his historical past, but did not recognize a divine being, as in the Torah what is mistranslated as “god” really is a multiple of deities: elohim (אֱלֹהִ֔ים).  Its singularity or plurality is determined by the verb.

Freud always saw himself as a secular Jew–one who believed in the conduct of inquiry, one who read omniverously, a man who found nothing unapproachable, as he wrote in his Autobiographical Study (Robert, Marthe (1976). From Oedipus to Moses: Freud’s Jewish Identity. New York, NY: Anchor, pp. 3-6) but it was the opposite for the Nazi Youth who found objections to books, especially those on sex, that their priests, pastors, bishops both Evangelical (Lutheran) and Roman Catholic shunned, forbade people to read, and sent the Nazi Youth (including Josef Ratzinger) to burn in public fires after storming libraries, clinics and other repositories.

With Nazi and episcopal approval, German university students began burning books especially those focused on the scientific inquiry of sex and religion.

For Freud, religion was to be an ethic–not a rule or law.

Freud saw religion as a repetition of the experience of a child.  Religion was but a toy that is too comforting to be given up even as an adult as it salves pain, worry, and sense of wrongful interactions. Compare this with 1 Corinthians 13:11: ὅτε ἤμην νήπιος, ἐλάλουν ὡς νήπιος, ἐφρόνουν ὡς νήπιος, ἐλογιζόμην ὡς νήπιος· ὅτε γέγονα ἀνήρ, κατήργηκα τὰ τοῦ νηπίου compared with the 1550 translation: ὅτε ἤμην νήπιος ὡς νήπιος ἐλάλουν ὡς νήπιος ἐφρόνουν ὡς νήπιος· ἐλογιζόμην ὅτε δέ γέγονα ἀνήρ κατήργηκα τὰ τοῦ νηπίου, where the writers of the First Letter to Corinth predate Freud even though the text is transmogrified by copyists in the pay of Constantine I at his Council of Nicaea with additional damage done in medieval scriptorium.   For Freud, this mean blind obedience to authority, a subservience that Socrates rejected and died for to prove the  necessity to question all things including the gods and religion (Plato, Apology 24-27; the official charge was insulting the gods [by questioning their existence]).

Religion, in short, Freud wrote was but a symbol of mortal fear of insecurity.  Religion was equivalent to the mask of misery and apprehension that crystalized in the caricature of Linus’ blanket.  Religion was never considered by Freud to be a permanent entity that would be there to comfort the child growing into manhood and ultimately old age–even though it had survived for more than ten thousand years.  Its survival, Freud contested, was the result of mortals unwilling to think for themselves and surrendering their personal freedom and choice to those they were told or taught to be higher in skills, knowledge, and closeness to the totem of definitions of godhood: the gods of water, earth, fire, air, fecundity (especially the deity of masturbation that Freud termed the most lasting addiction to mortals), and so forth.

The singular greatest tragedy of religion is it is a face for collective neurosis, caused in the same way that childhood neurosis is formed: being told what to do, believe, how to behave and so forth. The goal of religion, in this regard, Freud argued passionately is not only surrendering individual and collective free will but also individuality and the uniqueness that it brings, the right to think, act and express one’s true personality, and the developmental system of the mind to raise above mythology: it rejects self-actualization that will not be defined until the writing of Abraham Maslow, (April 1, 1908 – June 8, 1970) an American psychologist.

Maslow’s Pyramid of Self-Actualization

The illusion or deception of religion is not based on individual wishes, Freud facilitated in his speeches, letters and articles, but the fantasies and dreams of those who seek power over another by pretending to have a supernatural or spiritual authority that is greater than that of the individual. The most absurd of these is the concept of infallibility that actually raises a mere mortal to divine status in keeping with the initial holy trinity of ancient Egypt.

Egyptian Trinity (4230 BCE – c. 200 CE)

The ancient Egyptian Trinity included Osiris, Isis, and Horus whose priests had headresses similar to beehives and titles equaling Father.   This Trinity was, as pointed in various writings, no different from the Trinity worshipped by the ancient Serbians or

Trinity worship by ancient Serbians and Hindus (c. 4000 BCE – 800 CE (Serbians) or to present (Hindus).

Hindus, and is found in every culture that has existed and left records with the “holy group” equated with fertility rituals and “creation” as well as irresponsible actions causing pain and suffering for nonadherents and nonbelievers with similar mythologies of Great Flood, death and judgment, heaven and hell, demons and angels, devils and protectors, and other tales of terror, warfare, final days and warfare (Armageddon) that were used like horror stories to fighten children and their parents to keep people from questioning their leaders and officiants at sacrificial rites and riturals so that none would be able to reach his or her full potential, expose the deception and aid civilization to move out of the darkness of mythology into the light of learning.

Codex Sinaiticus (Vatican Library) fragments.

The earliest bibles were written by Eusebius in 331 CE (Eusebius, Vita Constantini, IV, 36, 37; this led to the composition (although there is the argument of how many columns made up each text) of the Codex Vaticanus and the younger Codex Sianiaticus: both originals exist only in fragments, fragments that were later copied and redacted).

The same is true concerning the holy books written by the followers of Muhammad who claim that the Qur’an was written by Remembrancers who were commission by Muhammad who had been ordered to use such people by the angel Gabriel (the Qu’ran has numerous variations within early scripts. Since the kufic script in which the Qu’ran was originally written contained no indication of vowels or diacritical points, variant readings are recognised by Muslims as of equal authority but there are various scholars who disagree that those that appeared within a generation after the death of Muhammad are authentic (cf. Tisdall, William St. Clair (1912). A Word to the Wise. Being a brief defence of the “Sources of Islám” [against the criticisms of Maulavi Muhammad ‘Alí in “The Divine Origin of the Holy Qur’an” and those of Imám Fakhru’l Islám]. N.p. n.p., 76 p.), but are like the scrolls and other texts determined in a political contest at Nicaea to be political defined by the authorities.

Oldest (alleged) copy of the Qur’an, written c. 19 years after the death of Muhammad

The same is true with the various generations of Caliphs of Islam one of whom claimed to have the oldest copy of the Qur’an written in 651, only 19 years after Muhammad’s death, but today its custodians refuse to allow any carbon dating or testing as it is rapidly disintegrating (uniquely, the faithful claim that Allah [god] promised to keep the Qur’an from “corruption” but that word means “changes” and not “disintegration”. The text is written in Kufic: the antecedent to Arabic. The word “Qur’an” means “dictation” and is believed by Muslims to be the very dictation and final revelation of Allah (God), as it was with the Emperor of the East who created what he called his “catholic [universal] church”.

Artist conception of Joseph Smith reading the seer stones in the base of his hat, with his face pushed deep into the hat. The stones have never been found.

The same is true with the invention of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) whose founder (Joseph Smith, Jr.) was a self-proclaimed prophet revealing secrets written on golden plates and by putting his head into a heat to read for seer stones when not dictating from behind a curtain (read here and here).  The golden plates that the angel allegedly gave Smith have never been seen, nor is there any record of anyone seeing the special glasses lent to Smith so that he could read the golden plates on which the faith in Mormon rests.

Even though  Smith  lacked any ability to read any ancient language and had no formal education in linguistics, translation or interpretation, Smith corrected the Bible authorized by the Emperor Constantine in 331 CE.  Even though Smith attended tent revivals, common in the first half of the nineteenth century, there is no record that Smith could read or write, nor define the differences in word order, word choice, textuality (textual criticism), or the date of invention and introduction of a word into the vernacular or vulgar (common) language; worse yet, Smith did not know that the Bible is by various hands as seen in the differences in poetry incorporated with prose.

Joseph Smith corrects the Bible

The fact that it is claimed that he translated and corrected the existing Judeo-Christian Bible is troubling, as it would mean that Smith was redacting existing translations: a person translates from an original language, but redacts (refines) from a language that is known and used by putting it into an acceptable and literary format (such as was the fate of the King James Version in 1611, that used Shakespearean English over the more dated pre-seventeenth century English, as the Bible had been translated into the vernacular by many English clergy, including Wycliff, Mary Tudor, etc.).

Why it is highly unlikely that Smith corrected the Judeo-Christian Bible is because he knew no foreign language and barely understood and used nineteenth century English.  This is seen in his alleged translation of scraps of Papyrus he used (he claimed he received them from an carnival man) to translate (D&C 73:4; 76:15; 90:13; 94:10; 124:89) hieroglyphic text (an art not yet perfected) to create what he declared to be the Testament of Abraham, even though he did not use any Greek, Hebrew texts nor Akkadian cuneiforms. Today’s scholars have the fragments and reject Smith’s translation, noting that the fragments are part of a manual on breathing.  The sources Smith plagiarized to prepare his “translations” are available here.

Fragment 1 Smith used for his Book of Abraham

Facsimile 1 references the various aspects of preparing the soul for its afterlife.  This includes cleansing with special liquids, embalming with herbs and spices, and laying the cadaver out so that it can be properly wrapped by eunuchs charged with protecting the body on its final journey to its ultimate resting place (for higher status people this would be a wooden box).

Facsimile 3: Osiris (Smith claims it is Abraham) judging from his throne.

Facsimile 3 is a graphic representation of the god of creation: Osiris, who married his sister Isis (a practice that was common throughout the known Middle East, and is the foundation for the myth of Abraham marrying his sister Sarah, whom the patriarch would sell to noble kings to enrich his treasury with coins, animals, “maid servants and man servants” as wealth was that which could be controlled: living beings as well as gold and aromas. The text at the bottom defines the judgment is absolute and is that of a god–not of a man: Abraham.

Papyrus IV Joseph Smith used by Smith to create his Book of Abraham

Papyrus 4 is a composite of various illustrations and commentary on the issue of breathing.  It reflects the advancement of medicine in the ancient world that was centered in the capital cities of Egypt and was unknown in what was known as Canaan (Palestine) that included Phoenicia and its tributory states.  There is no mention of the name of Abraham nor of any of his exploits, including the common practice of sacrificing the first born son to the gods to ensure that his wife would be fertile and produce more sons.  The first born son is heatedly debated, with Jews and Christians arguing that it was Isaac since the infant was born of the first wife (Sarah); however, the Muslim faithful assume that the first born was Ishmael, since he was first born even though his mother was the maidservant of Sarah and the concubine of the patriarch. Concubines were still considered part of the harem and thus wealth, and the arrival of a boy baby was hailed with the same gusto as if it had been born of the first wife. The text does not mention Abraham nor any of the myths that surround Abraham including the mission to Sodom or Lot’s incest with his two daughters in the mountain caves outside of the city of Zoar.

Papyrus X Joseph Smith (Smith used this fragment for his Book of Abraham)

Papyrus X is the most damning evidence against Joseph Smith Jr.’s claim to have translated the “long lost” (it is barely mentioned in the Old Testament) tract attributed to be the Book of Abraham.  It is a manual on breathing and has no reference to any divine breath as found in Psalm 150:6.  The word has been transmogrified to mean “dictation” as well as “inspiration” but this is taking extreme liberties with the ancient text.

While the Bible details that people should not hide their faith (1 Timothy 4:12), Joseph Smith Jr. had a difficult time not hiding his as a would-be evangelist at open-air revivals, or later when he claimed to be reading from golden plates or using the seer stones to read secret messages.  Smith always was in hiding when translating the Book of Mormon, usually behind a curtain that is the subject of the fantasy The Wizard of Oz.  To create an illusion or deception that something is special, throughout history the inveigler junque would use the word “divine” or “inspired” or even “holy” to give it a semblance of authenticity as being god-created or god-written–a fantasy from Babylon found in the Book of Daniel 5:5.  It is not found in the Torah. It is not surprising that Romney still claims that the Book of Abraham is original and reflects the fictional patriarch. His knowledge of this book, the Book of Mormon, and the Bible are note even marginal but badly lacking basics.

Freud was not as concerned about the illusion of religion as he was about the dangerof religion and its cannibalistic consuming intellect as well as the body of those who turn to it for succor. Freud’s concern was that religion would mandate and use bad human institutions (such as occurred during the Roman

Spanish Inquisition

Catholic Inquisition, the Protestant (especially the burning and hanging of witches both in Europe and the New World), Greek, Bulgarian, Russian and Serbian Orthodox, Roman Catholic Council of Bishops, the Grand Gathering of Ayatollahs (التجمع من آيات الله الكبرى), and so forth) to control mortals.  Religion’s control was always buttressed by the ruse of its necessity to protect “the morals and faith” of the sinner and all others, leaving little for the individual to determine as popes became infallible toward the end of the nineteenth century.

Religious institutions only thrive and accelerate when they prohibit critical thinking.  When this occurs it leads to the impoverishment of intelligence. This is especially true in units set aside for studies, debate, discussion, and research: schools, universities, seminaries, and so forth.  These opportunities disappear when they are controlled by religion regardless of its name or branding. Freud calls this tragedy Denkschwäche: the impoverishment of reason.

What has been repeatedly proven in psychological tests is that controlled thought impedes the power of reason. When the faculty of reasoning disappears or is denied, the result is the devastating decline of judgment and a further the debasement of self-acceptance.

Religion is mind control

The idea that ethics and righteous living is a product of religion is absurd, Freud argued. Instead, Freud noted, if mortals reject religion they will still be and remain ethical beings.  Ethics are universal and ethics do not require any divine being’s intervention, authorship or politics and interference of  a god (or a goddess if the actual words were followed, noting verbs to define and distinguish between singular and plural nouns).

Freud carefully, craftly counters the claims of religious groups and institutions, citing their histories as being filled with great cruelty that increased human suffering rather than reducing it, and advancing mortality (death) rather than working for a longer life as seen in the forced conversions of American natives put to the sword with the invasion of Spaniards in Central and South America (Francisco Pizarro destruction of the highly developed Inka civilization in Perú beginning in 1531 and executed Atahualpa, the emperor of the Inkas, on 26 July 1533 after Atahualpa filled a room with gold to pay for his freedom; Juan de Betanzos, Narratives of the Incas ed. Dana Buchanan, tr. Roland Hamilton. Austin, TX: University of Texas Press, 1996), the movement of Christian crusaders against Jews, Greeks, and fellow Christians during the period 1095-1492 (Runciman, Steven (1951-1954). History of the Crusades. Cambridge [Eng.]: University Press; three volumes), and Muslims from the rise of the armies of Muhammad attacking from Arabia to Spain and beyond (Hilliam, Paul (2004). Islamic weapons, warfare, and armies : Muslim military operations against the Crusaders. New York, NY: Rosen Pub. Group; Ibrāhīm Farghalī, Ibrāhīm (1998).

Without religion or its god(s), the individual has in his or her better interest to ascertain and insure that the individuals (collectively) work for the common good so that all can share in the rewards of ethical behavior. These ethics include brotherly love (for Freud this was Menschenliebe), truth, and freedom. Once mortals renounce the concept of the existence of a god, they longer turn to a heavenly Father, but see the earthly father and fatherhood (protective, caring, generous, sharing, and so forth) in all people.

Freud argued that the infantile fixation on an imaginary father must be removed from the psychology of people so that they can aim for greater human development and educate the self in face of reality.  The human father as a guide and guardian enables mortals to see pollution as real and work to end it, to see the assault on nature and enforce laws that nourish nature, to comprehend the finiteness of worldly resources and use them sparingly while working for alternative sources of energy, food, and so forth. When mortals realize that they have nothing to rely upon but themselves, collectively, then mortals will use their powers properly for the good of all.  When the earthly father is recognized as a husbandman maintaining the fruits of the planet so that there are resources for future generations and not obscene wealth for a few, there will be no William, Edward, or Charles Koch squandering the resources of the world nor will people allow themselves to be bullied by Mitt

A photo of Mitt Romney and a band of dark-haired, middle-aged, white gentlemen holding money after outsourcing USA citizens’ jobs overseas.

Romney repeating his Bain Capital attacks on private entrepreneuralships and businesses by immediate gratification decisions and open ballots as he did on June 6, 2012, when the former governor told CEOs to tell their people to vote for him if they wish to keep their jobs (read here and here and here). That is bullying and is in character with the prescribed role of a bishop in the Mormon Church—a roll that Mitt played before and still holds the key card (read here and here).

New York’s rich and super-rich convened in the Hamptons on Sunday for a trio of fundraisers for Mitt (2012).

Only when mortals are free—emancipating themselves from all forms of uninvited forms of control—especially the authority that threatens to grasp the world and reduce its objectivity and the rights of its citizens—will mortals ascend to the level of self-realization and self-actualization. Religion represents unparalleled powerlessness and dependence: on a god, a priest, a pope, a rabbi or pastor—but the rejections of religion gives mortals power and independence—along with the responsibility and obligation of working for the common good.

Carl G. Jung (1910)

Freud’s successor and colleague, Carl Gustav Jung (a Swiss psychologist and psychiatrist who founded analytical psychology and did not share Freud’s views nor interpretations; born July 26, 1875, Kesswil, Switzerland and died June 6, 1961, at Ksnacht), was not as astute or insightful a psychologist as Freud. Jung’s presentation of psychology was far narrower and thus more acceptable and adaptable to religions that persecute in the name Truth and the quest for it—by any means: lies, distortions and fantasies. Jung claimed that anything that exists is true because it exists, stating that “truth is a fact and not a judgment” (Jung, Carl G[ustav]. (1938). Psychology and Religion. New Haven, CT: Yale University Press; London, UK: H. Milford, Oxford University Press”).  In reality, truth is relative as it depends on the individual affirming its truthful nature, but can be rejected as fiction by those who find problems with any statement or word.

Group photo (1909) in front of Clark University. Front row: Sigmund Freud, G. Stanley Hall, Carl Jung back row: Abraham A. Brill, Ernest Jones, Sándor Ferenczi. Both Freud and Jung traveled to the USA to present papers.

Jung wrote in his introduction, in direct opposition to Freud psychological and philosophical works: “I restrict myself to the observation of phenomena and I refrain from any application of metaphysical or philosophical considerations” (p.2). This means that as unethical as Mitt Romney’s secret broadcast to the Koch Brothers and other billionaire CEOs that they have a right to order their employees to vote

Joseph Smith wrote polygamy is the wish of God.

Republican, it is justified because it occurred (read here and here). It is equal to the argument made by Joseph Smith that polygamy was a right of man even without the consent of the woman (Smith was ultimately divorced and left by his first wife who did not tolerate Smith’s second marriage while she was stilled married to the founder of the Mormon religion;  Roberts, B. H. (Brigham Henry) (1912), History of the Church, 6, Deseret News, pp. p. 411; Anderson, Richard Lloyd (1998). “The Prophet Joseph Smith and His Plural Wives“, FARMS Review of Books (The Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship) 10 (2): 67–104), or the erasure of souls in Black people based on a corrupt reading of Genesis 3 that was forged from ancient Akkadian mythology into Hebrew fables. What Jung selected to ignore is that an idea exists—regardless if it is a delusion or corresponds to fact.  Romney sees corporations as families and therefore have a right, if not a duty, to tell the family members (employees or workers) not only what to think but for whom to vote (read here and here and watch here).

Rick and Karen Santorum family

The existence of the idea does not make it true in any sense, although this absurdity reached its zenith under the Santorums of Pennsylvania (Karen, who had been living with an abortion provider before moving out to be with her future husband, Rick) who took a dead fetus to their home for their children to play with it as if the mortality was not final and the cadaver was their brother. Jung’s approach is not tenable from a psychiatric standpoint—it exists only in the area of relativism (cf. Dunne, Clare (2002). “Prelude”. Carl Jung: Wounded Healer of the Soul: An Illustrated Biography. New York, NY: Continuum International Publishing Group. pp. 3 f).  Large families are urged by both the Roman Catholic and Mormon churches–despite the reality that there is insufficient resources to sustain life on this water planet we call Earth.

Bryan Fischer

Carl Jung’s attempts to differentiate between “subjective” and “objective” existence is the weakest link in the chain he forged.  This is seen in the defense of bullies and bullyism in the speeches of Bryan Fischer (of the certified hate group American Family Association), Billy Graham (who scrubbed his website that had declared Mormonism a cult after he announced his endorsement of the Mormon bishop (whose faith Billy Graham blasted) Romney after the Mormon bishop promised to sign into legislation stronger ties between church and state, “protect

Billy Graham’s website calling Mormonism a cult (2005)

Christianity” and outlaw LGBT same-sex marriages, abortion, and other pet projects of the original Elmer Gantry), Ann Coulter (who tells parents to disown their sons if they are LGBT and not conservatives), and others in their opposition to workers rights (with Scott Walker, the billionaires candidate who bought the office, in Wisconsin being among their favorites), LGBT rights in Washington state, Minnesota, Maryland, and Maine with the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) funding hate to drive people to the polls. Hate is a unique mental illness: it is the deliberate negation of intimacy, rejection of passion, and avoidance of commitment. Hate originates from stories people create about the target: a person, place, thing, etc: such as hatred towards a skin pigmentation, a sexual orientation, age, weight, and so forth.  It is irrational, and in most cases, as with Maggie Gallagher and Bryan Fischer more than Billy Graham who peppers his sermons with vitriol of hate, hate is a statement that the person does not truly like himself or herself, and thus to compensate must strike out at a marginalized person or group (cf. Halperin, Eran (2012). “Review of The nature of hate.” doi.1037/a0026863. Peace and Conflict: Journal of Peace Psychology, Vol 18(1), Feb 2012, 101-103; Leader, Tirza; Mullen, Brian; Rice, Diana (2009). “Complexity and valence in ethnophaulisms and exclusion of ethnic out-groups: What puts the ” hate” into hate speech?” doi: 10.1037/a0013066. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Vol 96(1), Jan 2009, 170-182). To this end Jung argues that the essence of religious experience is the submission to powers higher than the self. Jung wrote: “[religion] is a careful and scrupulous observation of what Rudolph Otto (born September 25, 1869 – died March 6, 1937, he was an eminent German Lutheran theologian and scholar of comparative religion [comparative is not technically correct, as Otto measured the religions of the world against that of the Lutheran Church to find all wanting in substance and coverage in his work The Idea of the Holy (the actual title of the 1917 work published in 1918 is Das Heilige – Über das Irrationale in der Idee des Göttlichen und sein Verhältnis zum Rationalen (The Holy – On the Irrational in the Idea of the Divine and its Relation to the Rational) Breslau, Germany: Trewendt & Granier, to discuss the idea of the “Non-rational factor” in religion) aptly termed the ‘numinosum,’ styled by Otto as “numinous”, that is, a dynamic existence or effect, not caused by an arbitrary act of will (cf. Mok, Daniël (2012). Rudolf Otto: Een kleine biografie. Preface by Gerardus van der Leeuw. Amsterdam, The Netherlands: Uitgeverij Abraxas) had written: on the need to accept faith to make sense out of what seemed to be senseless.. On the contrary, religion “seizes and controls the human subject which is always rather its victim than its creator” (ibid., p. 4).

Rudolf Otto

With Otto’s study at the forefront, Jung argues that a religious experience is seized by a power outside of the self: it is a concept of the unconscious being that is religious. Jung argues that the influence of the unconscious upon the conscious “is a basic religious phenomenon” (ibid., p. 46). While Jung bows before the altar of immediate reality, Freud stood sentry over the aim of human development, if unchecked by religion, would lead to the achievement of ideals: knowledge (reason, truth, wisdom: logos), brotherly love (λόγος, from λέγω lego“I say”), reducing suffering, independence of and for the self, and the acceptance of responsibility (these are the teachings of Buddha, Confucius, Jesus, The Prophets, etc.).   While the denial of responsibility is quite human, it also shows inadequacy in the mind of the person denying responsibility and a flaw in that individual’s character (cf. Schwartz, Shalom H. (1974). “Awareness of interpersonal consequences, responsibility denial, and volunteering.” doi: 10.1037/h0036644. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Vol 30(1), Jul 1974, 57-63).

Freud spoke out against the theistic-supernatural concepts as stages in human development that were once, in an embryonic civilization, necessary to ensure initial growth. However, once growth began, it would have accelerated faster without the burden of theocracy.

Ayn Rand

For Jung, religion was an emotional experience that he defended, claiming that people need emotional ties and releases; in short, for Jung it is the psychology of the individual that is elevated to religious phenomenon. Ayn Rand (born Alisa Zinov’yevna Rosenbaum; February 2 [O.S. January 20] 1905 – March 6, 1982) was a Russian-American novelist, philosopher, playwright, and screenwriter whose philosophy is “objectivism”; she was an activist atheist who advocated reason as the only means of acquiring knowledge and rejected all forms of faith and religion arguing for wealth and power, regardless of how gained, was the true strength of mortals (she actively supported laissez-faire capitalism that she believed was the only social system that protected individual rights, and found any form of state control or help for the poor to be antithetical to the needs of those striving for ultimate wealth–her writings being denounced by most literary and economic theorists and critics). Paul Ryan is dedicated to Rand’s ideology) would fit comfortable into Jungian psychology.

It is from the writings of Rand that Paul Ryan gained his initial  Weltanschaung working against the teaching of the Jesus of the New Testament fitting comfortably with Jung, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and George W. Bush. While Romney has attempted to distance himself from the Bush legacy, the Mormon bishop uses most of the same words as Bush, and his proposed policies match those of Bush and his cabinet: especially the stand taken by Condoleezza Rice and Dick Cheney.  Both Rice and Cheney have publicly sided with the CEOs since the CEOs control the jobs even though salaries frequently exceed the salaries of all of their workers.

Freud would have stood with the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) protesters and, most likely, would vote for Obama.  Freud preferred a reality that can be judged by each person for what benefits the individual.  This philosophy that strengthened his psychoanalytic writings is in line with the politics and philosophy of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson, all of whom worked for an open society, a right to education and political discourse and who rejected discrimination.

Lilly Ledbetter and President Obama (January 29, 2009)

Obama has gone the farthest: fair pay for equal work (the Lilly Ledbetter Act (Public Law 111-2, S. 181) that was signed into law on January 29, 2009–Obama’s first official act as President–that Romney vigorously opposed, claiming that male bosses have the right to underpay women for work that men did but they are tasked to do as women), a woman’s right to determine her destiny and what she will do with her body (read here and here), the right to health care, the right to a good education, revitalizing the economy and more.

The fact that religion plays an ever-increasing role in contemporary politics (everywhere) shows Jungian influence. This is especially true among the craven and crass American Council of Roman Catholic Bishops (especially the bishops of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN (John C. Nienstedt), and Peoria, IL (Daniel Jenky who compared Obama to Hitler, exposing his ignorance of Hitler and his Third Reich), both of whom are using church tithes for personal political agendas).  Nienstedt and Jenky are set to attack like a pack of hyenas President Obama and “Obamacare” as dividing religion.  The Roman Catholic Church in the USA, led by Dolan of New York City and Francis Cardinal George, OMI, wrongly states that Obamacare (Universal Health Care) requires churches to provide birth control, death panels and similar measures, but none appear anywhere in the legislation), and with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Knights of Columbus that both claim they are formed for purposes of charity yet use their gifts and contributions (in defiance of IRS regulations) to fight against the right of choice from abortion to same-sex marriage.

To stop voters from exercising free choice at the polls in November 2012, billionaire CEOs warn workers that if Obama wins the workers will lose their jobs, banks will foreclose on their homes, and poverty will strangle the economy.  The most odious, deceitful and duplicitous states whose Republican/Tea Party controlled governments who have attacked voters with the most vile voting restrictions are: Alabama, Florida (a judge later tossed out most of the draconian restrictions), Georgia, Iowa whose Tea Party Republicans in the legislature are among the least educated and most vitriolic vote deniers in the nation and is under the strangling control of Secretary of State Matt Schultz, Mississippi, Ohio created by Secretary of State Jon Husted, Pennsylvania whose current restrictive laws are worse than they were in 1960 when the KKK and neo-Nazi groups had the ear of Pennsylvania legislators and whose legislation surpassed that of those of segregationist Mississippi in the 1960s, Nebraska where gun owners have more rights than those who do not possess firearms, North Carolina where potential voters can use a National Rifle Association (NRA) membership card or a NASCAR ticket stub as proof of eligibility to vote, Rhode Island that allows a person to vote if he or she shows a bank statement, South Carolina that requires a photo ID among other qualifiers (although the law has been suspended until 2013), South Dakota that questions the rights of women as not being able to make a decision for themselves without the guidance of a male especially in the area of birth control and family planning, Tennessee where the Republican secretary of state, Tre Hargett, rifles in to disenfranchise minorities and the poor requiring proof of citizenship, Texas enacted legislation to bar or limit Latinos/Latinas and disabled people from voting, Virginia that (among other draconian dictates) is aimed at disenfranchising women from their right to vote, in keeping with Mormon philosophy that women are subordinate to men and need the guidance of men to function–similar to Islam and Sharia law, West Virginia, and Wisconsin led by  the governor, Scott Walker, to disempower union activists, teachers, and retired–while allowing (and encouraging) corporate executives to exert pressure on labor to vote Republican.

Not only has government attacked voting rights, but religion has spent more money on suppressing human and basic civil rights than any other group.  The most sinister sanctimonious services are those of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) and the Roman Catholic Church (read here and here), with such organized hate groups as the Knights of Columbus (the Roman Catholic version of the KKK, of which more than 50% of its members belong to the Klan) spending millions to defeat marginalized people in opposition to the majority of Roman Catholics in the USA who denouncethe Knights of Columbus as a fascist group that does evil and little good and complain that the bishops are daily demanding they vote in league with the nation of Vatican City that has throughout its history been vocal in its opposition to democracy, support of monarchy and dictatorship as seen in its blessing of the twentieth century tyrannies of Franco in Spain, Peron in Argentina, Fujimori in Peru, Ferdinand and Imalda Marcos of the Philippines, and Pinochet in Chile. Its record throughout history has even been more

An Eyewitness Account of the Saint Bartholomew’s Day Massacre by François Dubois (1572)

The most viciously vile of all Roman Catholic bishops in the USA is Joseph J. Tyson, the bishop in Yakima, Washington, who told the clergy that they must ask Catholics for a give a “generous donation” to the campaign trying to reject Referendum 74 (equality in marriage) in defiance of IRS code.

Joseph J. Tyson of Yakima, prefers to protect pedophiles than support loving committed couples in Washington state (2012).

The theological terrorist, Tyson told the priest under his jurisdiction: “I am asking you to announce a special parishioner financial appeal at each Mass on the weekend of August 25/26 or September 1/2—whichever one you choose—to promote the September 8/9 in-pew collection for the Preserve Marriage Washington campaign,” Tyson wrote in a letter earlier this month (.pdf).  Tyson added a postscript to protect himself from an IRS audit and tax exemption repeal, “Please Note: This is not a parish collection. Please be sure that parish staff knows that these envelopes are NOT to be opened or recorded by the parish.”  Read Tyson’s blog.  Tyson has classic symptoms of irrational thought and mental conflict in a study of his words, and makes him dangerous to himself and to his community.  He openly callas for money, then diminishes the significance of his words to caution parishoners not to put in any bill / check that might identify the giver or the recipient. This increased the anger of the congregation and their ultimate rejection of the plea (cf. Juvonen, Jaana (1992). “Negative peer reactions from the perspective of the reactor.” doi: 10.1037/0022-0663.84.3.314.  Journal of Educational Psychology, Vol 84(3), Sep 1992, 314-321; cp. McCreary, John K. (1948). “The psychology of morality.” doi: 10.1037/h0084074. Canadian Journal of Psychology/Revue canadienne de psychologie, Vol 2(4), Dec 1948, 212-223).

Worse than Tyson or any Roman Catholic bishop is the knavish Knights of Columbus–named after a rapist, soldier-of-fortune, and mass murderer.  Headquartered in New Haven, CT, the KC labels itself as a charitable institution seeking to bring solace and comfort to those in need.  It does not.  According to the Internal Revenue Service, the Knights of Columbus donated $6.25 million to fight same-sex marriage initiatives between 2005-2012. Close to $2 million of those funds went directly to NOM, with the approval of the pope whose agents are working to overthrow democracy in all nations where tolerance is practiced and enshrined in law.  Its Seattle, WA, chapter shows how sumptuous and discreditable the KC is in the West, spending millions on furnishings while people go for want of food, water, and shelter. Compare it with the Marian Council 3827 at Bloomington.  The Knights of Columbus are as corrupt as the medieval papacy.

Knights of Columbus misuse of contributions since 2005

Rigidly stalwart in support of the corrupt clergy and hierarchy of bishops, archbishops and cardinals in the USA and abroad, the Knights of Columbus remain quiet on pedophiles within the church, and actually support bishops such as Dolan of New York City who attempted to silence legal claims against the Roman Catholic Church with money.  The inordinate amount of money held and used by the Knights of Columbus is spellbinding and awesome.

Knights of Columbus corporate headquarters in New Haven, CT

The Knights of Columbus, founded by  Father Michael J. McGivney (a “Venerable” in the Roman Catholic Church, meaning he is considered holy and may some day be declared a saint), are among the richest groups (insurance, and other capital ventures) in the USA and regularly are investigated for money laundrying at their national headquarters both in the USA and abroad as far as the Philippines.  Rather than spending money on charitable deeds, the Knights of Columbus have a long and stained history of working to suppress human and civil rights(read here for Minnesota, here for the US Conference of Roman Catholic Bishops, and here), to fight against women seeking equality with men and self-determination, and protecting pedophiles within the Roman Catholic Church.

Dolan enjoys a glass of wine

Dolan’s duplicity has been repeated frequently, especially among bishops in the Midwest (Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, and boardering states), such as the crimes of Diocese of Jefferson City, Missouri, Bishop John R. Gaydos, and those who have worked in concert to cover up those crimes against children in the Middle West.  The problem is that the Knights of Columbus is an insurance agency masquerading as a charitable organization headed by laity and bishops, with $80 billion in assets; $40 billion is devoted to insurance–and pay no taxes since it claims it is a charitable organization.  In truth it is organized hate.  In 2008, the Knights of Columbus Corporation paid chief executive officer Carl A. Anderson $1.17 million.

Sean cardinal O’Malley of Boston

The Knights of Columbus Corporation makes no effort to support worker benefits, a living wage, or affordable healthcare for the citizens of the United States. Boston, Massachusetts Sean Cardinal O’Malley identified 159 pedophile priests 25 August 2011 in Boston whose salaries were paid with pension funds earmarked for the Daughters of St. Paul, who had to sue the church conglomerate to get their retirement fund restored. Knights of Columbus could not be bothered as numerous complaints were being filed against the organization itself, that, like the Boy Scouts of America that has admitted keeping on over 1250 pedophileswhile at the same time denying openly gay scouts their right to earn the Eagle badge (the hypocrisy is startling! When I complained about being molested in the 1950s, I was told to “shut up” or the camp attendants at Camp Ingawanis in Iowa would drown me; when I told my mother, she refused to believe that the older males, whom she knew, would rape a small child–a mindset in Iowa that last to this day), is riddled with

Archbishop Harry J. Flynn

pedophiles and forced homosexual acts. Pedophiles are subject to acting out fantasies for various reasons, but it occurs during different mood swings; psychologists must help pedophiles recognize their mood-temperment and not hide it or attempt to compensate for it, as compensation or denial leads to more aggressive mood swings (cf. Gillies, Laurie A.; Hashmall, Judith M.; Hilton, N. Zoe; Webster, Christopher D.  (1992). “Relapse prevention in pedophiles: Clinical issues and program development.” doi: 10.1037/h0078714. Canadian Psychology/Psychologie canadienne, Vol 33(2), Apr 1992, 199-210; the article is in French). Archbishop Harry J. Flynn (ret.) of St. Paul-Minneapolis raided funds ($3.1 million) from a priest retirement account and another fund ($700,000) earmarked for charity and social services to settle child molestation claims. This is religion?

The tainted Iowa executives are (top row, left to right): Michael P. Laake, State Deputy Director; Joseph A. Ramirez, State Secretary, and Lawrence G. Mayer, State Treasurer. The miscreant bishops are (bottom row, left to right): Archbishop Jerome Hanus, OSB, Dubuque; Bishop Richard E. Pates, Des Moines; and Bishop Martin J. Amos, Davenport.

Iowa is a particularly troubling case study and a state where excellence is equated with athletic prowess and not intellectual ability, leading many craven politicians to forgive “transgressions if the transgressor is hailed as an athlete” or a religious person, but rejects the same for the academic or one not athletically engaged; the Knights of Columbus push athletics more than academic advances, and thus fund activities where performance on a court or ball diamond is hailed and indiscretions occur, but not in the classroom or arts as more insurance is sold to those who watch or participate in games than attend lectures or classes.  Pedopiles in the pulpit or on the game-field are forgiven and their peccadillos pushed behind a curtain of self-righteousness.  The same is true in politics–the more fervent the politician is in broadcasting his affirmation of a religious belief or membership in a religious organization, the quicker the Knight of Columbus and churches are to grant him or her special status and endorsement (as with Bob Vander Plaats) regardless of the candidates mental state or performance for the good of all constituents, with those who interview or associate with the religious affirming candidate quick to internalize behavior, while visiting with or being seen with a politican who is not prone to expressing religious views is seen as a threat (cf. Houts, Arthur C.; Graham, Kenton (1986). “Can religion make you crazy? Impact of client and therapist religious values on clinical judgments.” doi: 10.1037/0022-006X.54.2.267. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Vol 54(2), Apr 1986, 267-27).

The Iowa Knights of Columbus leadership have been regularly tainted with scandals from sex to money laundrying, and its bishops with pedophile cover-ups and pay-offs.  Davenport disbursed $37 million to 156 claimants molested by 24 priests and then filed bankruptcy in 2008. Dubuque paid $5 million to 20 survivors victimized by pedophile priests over the last 50 years.  Bishop R. Walker Nickless remains a cipher in the current phase of pedophile priest scandal, although his predecessor, Bishop Lawrence Soens is the central figure in the Iowa settlements.  This cover-up and payment of predatory pedophile priests show mental instability among the bishops who are directly contributing to mood swings of the pedophile who internalizes that if he “confesses his sin” he is somehow exempt from behavior modification. Parsimonious religious-based behavioral activation intervention for depression in college students can be beneficial, but not covering-up continued cases of misbehavior (cp. Armento, Maria E. A.; McNulty, James K.; Hopko, Derek R. (2012).  “Behavioral activation of religious behaviors (BARB): Randomized trial with depressed college students.” doi: 10.1037/a0026405. Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, Vol 4(3), Aug 2012, 206-222; on covering-up psychopathic predators, ref. Erickson, Steven K.; Vitacco, Michael J. (). “Predators and punishment.” doi: 10.1037/a0024607. Psychology, Public Policy, and Law, Vol 18(1), Feb 2012, 1-17).

Freud claimed that over actions were the result of an overactive libido, building on the work  of Karl Abraham.  Freud pointed out that these libidinal drives can conflict with the conventions of civilized behavior, represented in the psyche by the superego, requiring the need to conform to society and control the libido.  If the control is extreme or misunderstood, those whose libido is overly active can experience tension and variouos psychological disturbances within the psyche of the individual leading to aggression, violence, withdrawal, bullying, and suicide.  The disturbances prompt the use of ego defenses to dissipate the psychic energy of these unmet and mostly unconscious needs into other forms or result in neurosis. When society puts an emphasis on a form of sexual behavior or denies people the right to express themselves in that behavior style (such as LGBT), it can have catastrophic effects:  usually seizures, withdrawal, or suicide.

A primary goal of psychoanalysis is to bring the drives of the id into consciousness.  This is done by allowing the drives to be understood directly without judgment, reducing the patient’s reliance on ego defenses. The problem here is religion that limits what a person can do or how it can be done; for example: denying sexuality’s force to be expressed by teaching abstinence (an unnatural sexuality), preaching chastity as if it was normal, and discouraging sexuality altogether (Froböse, Gabriele; Froböse, Rolf and Gross, Michael (trans) (2006). Lust and Love: Is it more than Chemistry?  Cambridge, UK: Royal Society of Chemistry).

While Jung argued that the libido was “psychic energy”, that has proven too marginalized to be an effective response.  Jung, feverishly working to retain his elevation of ontology into the realm of reality wrote that the libido expresses itself only through symbols: “It is the energy that manifests itself in the life process and is perceived subjectively as striving and desire”  (Ellenberger, Henri (1970). The Discovery of the Unconscious: The History and Evolution of Dynamic Psychiatry. New York, NY: Basic Books, p. 697). Recently,  philosopher and psychologist James Giles has argued that human sexual desire is neither a biological instinct nor something learned or constructed by culture. Rather, sexual desire is an existential need based on the awareness of the individual that he or she has a gender and that gender requires satisfaction (sex)–which is one of the basic needs detailed by Maslow.  Gender without sexuality leaves the individual in a state of incompleteness and thus the individual can become restive, aggressive, withdrawing from society at any level, and makes the contemplation of suicide as a viable alternative to continuing living in an unfriendly, unloving, nonresponsive and hateful homophobic or heterophobic world (cf. Giles, James [2004]. The Nature of Sexual Desire, Westport, CT: Praeger).  To remove the sense of incompleteness, the individual will attempt to bare the body and soul, engage in carressing a loved object as if to ellicit a response, but frequently is rebuffed by the object of attraction who is equally chained to the ropes of religion that forbids select acts (even though those acts are found in the literature of the religion).  This is most clearly seen in the Mormon religion that, until Utah sought admission to the Union, ruled that a man could have any number of wives, but a wife could only have one husband. There are no recorded statistics (that I am aware of) on the number of mental breakdowns, murders and suicides were committed because of this, although we do know that Joseph Smith’s first wife divorced him and later spoke out against polygamy.

Bob Vander Plaats (Iowa) invented his own religious organized hate group to make money (he sold his endorsement to Santorum for $1 million)

The challenge in the Mormon community is to free itself from the primitive patriarchy that is the foundation of the religion, and enter into a real world where men are not always dominant (a theme, tragically, detailed by Bob Vander Plaats of West Des Moines, Iowa, in his e-mails and mailings on his program The FAMiLY, where he celebrates the mistranslations found in the Pauline letters where the man is to dominate; it was a great money making scheme, but not as lucrative as when the Iowan sold his endorsement for the Republican presidential candidacy to Rick Santorum for $1 million (read here and here and here and here).  Bob Vander Plaats lies when he claims he is an educator (he was a coach), and a biblical authority, yet has no formal education and shows no independent knowledge of Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek (any form), etc., but depends on bad English translations–without the least comprehension of the text of Colossians 3:9:  μὴ ψεύδεσθε εἰς ἀλλήλους, ἀπεκδυσάμενοι τὸν παλαιὸν ἄνθρωπον σὺν ταῖς πράξεσιν αὐτοῦ, or more simply: nolite mentiri invicem expoliantes vos veterem hominem cum actibus eius (Biblia Sacra Vulgata) that is firm in the Armenian: Մի՛ ստէք իրարու. հանեցէ՛ք ձեր վրայէն հին մարդը՝ իր գործերով or even in his native Dutch: Liegt niet tegen elkander, dewijl gij uitgedaan hebt den ouden mens met zijn werken.  It is obvious that Vander Plaats either is unfamiliar with, or choses to ignore, Leviticus 6:1-2:  וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃  נֶפֶשׁ כִּי תֶחֱטָא וּמָעֲלָה מַעַל בַּיהוָה וְכִחֵשׁ בַּעֲמִיתֹו בְּפִקָּדֹון אֹו־בִתְשׂוּמֶת יָד אֹו בְגָזֵל אֹו עָשַׁק אֶת־עֲמִיתֹו׃

These letters were written by a group (or if you wish to be literal, by one man) who never met the Jesus of the New Testament, never was a part of the original ministry, and was using strained reality to elevate patriarchy where women were to be silent (1 Corinthians 14:34-35; actually it is an invocation that women were not to sing so as to distract men from prayers) and be obedient (submissive; Colossians 3:18: Αἱ γυναῖκες, ὑποτάσσεσθε (upotassesthe)and it appears only once in the New Testament; it does not mean “to yield” as in Hebrews 13:17:  ὑπείκετε and does not include the Old Testament concept of feigning (pretense: יִתְכַּֽחֲשׁוּ־) self being obedient, as in 2 Samuel 22:45:  בְּנֵי נֵכָר יִתְכַּחֲשׁוּ־לִי לִשְׁמֹועַ אֹזֶן יִשָּׁמְעוּ לִי׃) τοῖς ἀνδράσιν ὡς ἀνῆκεν ἐν κυρίῳ, and 1 Peter 3:1: Ὁμοίως αἱ [αἱ does not appear in the original text] γυναῖκες ὑποτασσόμεναι τοῖς ἰδίοις ἀνδράσιν, ἵνα καὶ εἴ τινες ἀπειθοῦσι τῷ λόγῳ, διὰ τῆς τῶν γυναικῶν ἀναστροφῆς ἄνευ λόγου κερδηθήσονται,; submission does not mean being coerced, but to be within a “willing conciliation” where both parties make decisions jointly out of a willingness to maintain peace, open communication and mutual respect; the problem is the extraordinarily bad translations of scripture that fundamentalists have no idea, nor any desire to learn, what was really written or meant) to the male figure (primarily the husband, but afterwards to the father, and so forth–a patriarchy that populates the injunctions in the chapter (sutra) Cow in the Qur’an).  Women in the Qur’an have less value and can be beaten by their husband (Qur’an 4:34) that Muslims came from Allah’s [god] instruction originally imposed on the Babylonian Job (Qur’an 38:44).  Women have a less favorable role in the Hadith: Bukhari (72:715), Bukhari (72:715) where Muhammad’s child-bride  Aisha complained that Muslim women sufferred more than women “of non-believers”, as she was beaten by Muhammad who struck her in the chest: Muslim (4:2127) as did his father-in-laws who saw it as funny Muslim (9:3506) as beatings were considered “necessary” Abu Dawud (2141-2142).

Polygamy in the Book of Mormon is sanctioned

In each case, where a man was the chief (bishop, ayatollah, etc), he was sanctioned in all of his actions. To this end, Romney had the right according to his office as bishop in the Mormon church not only to take another wife (or several), but to control her, and control all businesses–including telling corporation executive officers what to tell (instruct) their employees: to vote for him.  Jung would have agreed; Freud would have rejected such a contention as demeaning the psychological rights of the individual.

Viki Knox: a Study of Ignorance and Hatred

By definition from its first English appearance in 1250 CE, a teacher is an individual who instructs by seeking out knowledge that known or not imparted.  It is the individual who leads in a course of study to learn that which is not only known but not yet known. A teacher is a subject-matter expert in the continuous pursuit of inquiry to test and evaluate, re-test and re-evaluate all things in quest of what is–not what one wishes there to be in existence.  Just because for more than three thousand years people thought that the water planet was fixed and the sun orbited around the Earth (geocentric Ptolemaic system that achieved its full expression in the second century), it was a teacher, a searcher after knowledge, and a sage, the Catholic monk Nicolaus Copernicus who rejected the memorized thesis and advanced heliocentricism (from the Greek ἥλιος or helios “sun” and κέντρον or kentron “center”).  Viki Knox, it appears, prefers a marriage to the discredited past.

New Jersey Teacher Viki Knox

Viki Knox, a 49-year-old teacher at Union High School in Union Township, New Jersey, is the antithesis of a teacher.  Sadly, she teaches special education, but ignores that the prerequisite for a teacher is to present information that can be scientifically investigated and not rely on fantasy or mythology unless it is used in a course in literature.  No teacher has the right to interject her or his religious beliefs in any classroom without full tolerance of divergent and differing opinions.

Viki Knox Facebook page

A poster in Facebook, as noted in the New York Times, Knox wrote that while she had friends and loved ones who were gay, she believed that the way they lived was “against the nature and character of God” and that the high school was “not the setting to promote, encourage, support and foster homosexuality.”

LGBT display that caused outrage by Viki Knox

Knox posted on Facebook a photo of a school display recognizing October as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History month. It included photos of Virginia Woolf, Harvey Milk and Neil Patrick Harris.

According to the Star-Ledger Knox declared, furthermore, that homosexuality is “a perverted spirit that has existed from the beginning of creation,” and a “sin” that “breeds like cancer.”  What was generated by Knox was the cancer of hate that now fills entries on Facebook in the Garden State and throughout the nation.

Viki Knox’s full text is here, including bad grammar (I note only the worst parts of her incorrect use of the English language):

“Homosexuality is a perverted spirit [sic] that has existed from the beginning of creation. The word of God refers to it often. That’s if you believe the Word to be truly God’s intended blueprint for his people.  I have friends and loved ones who are practicing/ living as homosexuals. Yes[,] I love [and] can care about them. We hug and exchange gifts. We have family dinners. But [sic: it is incorrect to begin any sentence with a conjunction] how they live and their actions, behaviors [sic] -CHOICES are against the nature and character of God! Do I [sic] tell me so? Yes, of course. Do I treat them bad? If course not! Jesus never did that to ANYONE he meant [sic]. He spoke to them of their situation and offered them life eternal. He didn’t say it was okay[,] but we’ve all sinned and come [sic: tense agreement] short if [it is] God’s will for us[,] daily. That’s why we Christians [who are] true followers pray, repent, and spend time with Christ daily. The Word of God instructs us to die daily to our flesh-meaning our will. What we want; what feels good to us; what we like; what we can rationalize and justify [run-on fragment]. I do not pretend to know ALL things. Nor [sic] do I pretend not to have biases, failings and faults. But I know sin and it breeds like cancer!”

The local newspaper responded, in an editorial, noting:

She might as well have hopped on a soapbox across the street from the school and screamed her anti-gay rant into a bullhorn. Or [sic] stapled posters to telephone poles around town.

While we all should be allowed an inner circle with whom we can speak freely, Knox gave up those protections when she posted her comments on the most public forum there is — the internet. She created a fearful, hostile environment for students. That’s unacceptable.

Knox has the right to a hateful view, but once her beliefs are made public, she doesn’t have the right to a taxpayer-funded, $70,688-a-year job in which she is expected to treat all students equally and with respect. She should absorb the harshest action possible, suspension or firing.

The problem is not with Ms. Knox’s freedom of speech, when it was in a classroom or the private homes of others, but when she made it public by ranting on Facebook–which is accessible by any member or others who have access through friends with accounts on Facebook.  Ms. Knox’s poor judgment goes further, however, for she wrote copiously about various perceived infractions without any documentation.  For example, Knox wrote about her relationship with her colleagues and her employer.  She openly admitted that she was “pitching a fit.” Her poor writing makes some of her comments difficult to parse, but she at one points seems to accuse colleagues of “talking behind backs, calling names, laughing in faces and stabbing in backs.” She appears to suggest that past faculty and administrators were openly racist. Perhaps worst of all, she wrote that “lesbian gym teachers introduce and experiment with female students/athletes.”  These sorts of remarks may well provide grounds for discipline at the school and in a civil court as being libel.

Viki Knox’s lack of sensitivity that is essential in a teacher, especially of young people, was non-existent at one point.  It has been reported by Scott Weingart, that “Viki Knox spouted her bigoted and ignorant ideas in the classroom and violated a student’s First Amendment rights by ordering a student who wore a rainbow bracelet to leave the classroom.”  There was no harm done by wearing the bracelet–it only signified solidarity with a specific group. It could have been worn by a supporter of LGBT rights; the adornment used was not a statement of being heterosexual or homosexual, and there is no reference to the individual wearing it being LGBT.

There is no tangible proof nor observation by any student that the school was “setting to promote, encourage, support and foster homosexuality.”  The school was only recognizing the existence of the LGBT community and allowed posters to display diversity.  As for homosexuality being “against the nature and character of God”, there is no proof in any Bible, Torah, Vesta, or other holy book that any deity was against homosexuality (cf. Conner, Randy P.; Sparks, David Hatfield and Sparks, Mariya (1998). Cassell’s Encyclopedia of Queer Myth, Symbol and Spirit. London, UK: Cassell), although most volumes portray the god(s) as being sexual: heterosexual, bisexual, and even homosexual (especially in ancient Greece and the ancient Near East) as with Zeus and Ganymede (Γανυμήδης, the word translates as “rejoicing in virility” and is Etruscan in origin; ref. Homer, Iliad, 5.265ff), or in ancient Egypt with Seth and Horus (Plutarch, De Iside et Osiride).

Ms. Knox is not a trained nor registered psychologist and has given no evidence of education in human character appraisal. Psychologists and psychiatrists agree that homosexuality is natural and normal in all species. It is also nature’s perfect method of natural birth control.

To argue that homosexuality is against the character of God implies that God has the psychology of a heterosexual and thus must have mortal attributes: a penis, scrotum, anus, breath, muscle, and so forth–which is taking a quite liberal literal interpretation of ancient Hebrew scripture. This is taking biblical literalism to new heights where the deities of the bible sit on clouds on thrones that defy the laws of gravity (Psalm 46:8, cp. 110:1) or will ride horses out of the heavens to conduct war with swords (Revelation 19:11) as Jesus came to earth to bring a sword and wage war, separating families and friends (Matthew 10:34).

Tyler Clementi committed suicide at Rutgers U

To introduce her comments for public consumption lessens her effectiveness as a teacher.  The State of New Jersey has a strong anti-discrimination statute, a law that Viki Knox defied.  By promoting hatred in a public place, Ms. Knox forfeited her right to freedom of speech, and on that charge could be, and in my opinion, should be dismissed from public teaching.  I am confident she would be far more comfortable teaching in a parochial school that shares her own biases and bigotry.  Knox’s comments are tantamount to bullying, and New Jersey has one of the strongest anti-bullying laws on record in the USA, adopted last spring in the wake of the suicide of Tyler Clementi, a Rutgers student who killed himself after learning he had been watched, via webcam, kissing another man.

As I wrote in previous blogs, bullying leads to more suicides than most other reasons, as seen with the bullying of Phoebe Prince, age 15, in Massachusetts, and Jamey Rodemeyer in New York.  If a suicide (singular or plural) should result because of her ill-chosen words that were not open to rejoinders, she should be considered an accessory to that person’s death.

Ms. Knox, by 2010, had 12 years of experience in the district and earned $72,109 in that year. In addition to teaching courses in special education, the New York Times reported on October 13, 2011 (published on October 14, 2011, on page A28), that some residents and parents said that she also advised a student prayer group, an evangelical extremist group known as The Seekers Fellowship.  In her Facebook profile, Ms. Knox considers herself more than a teacher; she sees herself also as a preacher–and her gospel alone has value.

The only positive incident was that Ms. Knox was escorted off of the campus. She is under investigation.

Suicide is frequently Premeditated Murder

Suicide, from the Latin suicidium, from sui caedere, “to kill oneself”, is the act of intentionally causing one’s own death; in most cases it applies to mortal beings (humans), although there are reported cases of animals deliberately starving themselves to death because a benefactor/owner died, moved away, or abandoned the animal, or because its mate ceased living or left.  In all cases, it is an external reaction to an internal perceived loss; however, today, with more suicides taking place each year, it is far closer to murder with death being the result of aggravated pain brought about by another person who casts aspersions or speaks negatively or argumentatively with someone who does not follow the norm of a society or given situation.

Over one million people die by suicide every year, and more than twenty million people each year attempt suicide, especially in religious communities and states/nations where a fundamentalist faith is in power politically and theologically, as seen in the suicide of Bryan Egnew, a 40-year old gay

Bryan Egnew and Family (On Facebook, Egnew wrote of the photo, “Pic of family on vacation in Florida. Laissez rouler les bons temps!“)

Mormon man who had a wife and five children, lost his family, his place in his church, and ultimately his life by suicide, after being excommunicated by a religion that had no program to help people understand the LGBT community but condemned it on the weakest evidence possible: claiming it was not intended to exist by god.

As a friend of Egnew wrote: “Bryan found that courage and came out to his family and his church. The results were tragic. According to Curran, his wife Amy immediately packed up their children and drove them out-of-state to Tennessee, refusing to let Bryan see them. His parents and family withdrew, and his Church immediately excommunicated him because he refused to denounce his sexual orientation”.  His wife, Amy, his parents and children are all guilty of his suicide, for the put stress upon his life so that he could not reason sanely.  Amy and her children, and the parents of Egnew passed a death sentence on Bryan.  Bryan was made to feel like garbage, and in despair took out the garbage–his own life for he had given up all hope–and got rid of it.  According to Sigmund Freud, this was “Todestrieb”, a psychological drive towards death, self-destruction and the return to the inorganic where physical and mental pain were unknown.  This became popularly known as a “death drive” (or “death wish”) that frequently led to suicide, as the death drive opposes Eros: the tendency toward survival, propagation, sex, and other creative, life-producing drives of pleasure and fulfillment.  Suicide appears, according to Freud, as an urge in organic life to restore an earlier state of things.  Those who take their lives are trying to restore or return to a time thee was no pain. (Sigmund Freud (1987 edition). “Beyond the Pleasure Principle” in On Metapsychology: the theory of psychoanalysis : Beyond the pleasure principle, the ego and the id and other works  Middlesex, Harmondsworth, UK: Penguin, p. 308).

Freedom go to hell (Islam 2011)

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that suicide is the thirteenth-leading cause of death worldwide.  The National Safety Council rates it sixth in the United States.  Suicides have increased 60% over the past 50 years.  Now the rate is rising rapidly, especially in areas controlled politically and theologically by evangelical extremists of any religion.  Today’s radical evangelical Christians, such as C. Peter Wagner and Texas Governor Rick Perry,

Westboro Baptist Church protesting near Islamic Center of America on Ford Road

are as rabid and hatefilled as any ayatollah in Iran or other Muslim dominated nation, where human rights mean nothing, and civil rights are cursed in the name of following the rigid laws of a god who was never author, but whose words, it is alleged, were either memorized or written down by a scribe or prophet so that individual lives can be controlled by a few for their personal enrichment.  This has always led to suicides–in all religions and all nations especially where religion is strong.

There has been a rapid rise in suicides in the USA recently, especially in areas where evangelical Christianity has a stranglehold and children of fundamentalist families attend public schools where there are a variety of

lifestyles that do not conform to their preconceptions.

Asher Orrin Michael Brown, March 1, 1997 – September 23, 2010, of Houston, Texas, shot himself in the head after kicked down a flight of stairs, his books kicked and scattered across the ground, while other students watched. When Asher attempted to gather himself up, he was kicked down another flight of stairs “because he had a lisp, was a Buddhist and ostensibly gay”.  Bullying is a leading cause of death among teenagers and adults under 35.  It is seen as an apocalyptic forerunner of an epidemic of suicides in Michele Bachmann (R-MN)’s 6th congressional district: Minnesota’s largest district.  When questioned about the current holocaust the presidential candidate remained stealthily silent as Bachmann has always found it difficult to talk about homosexuality, and at times even use the word–a word that did not appear in any English lexicon before 1892, and then only in the English translation of Krafft-Ebing’s Psychopathia sexualis, which was a reference work, in German, on sexual perversions (Krafft-Ebing, R. [Richard] von (1891).  Psychopathia sexualis : mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der conträren Sexualempfindung : eine klinisch-forensische Studie; 6. verm. und  theilweise umgearb. Aufl. Stuttgart, Germany: Ferdinand Enke; reissued as: R. von Krafft-Ebing (1893). Psychopathia sexualis : with especial reference to contrary sexual instinct : a medico-legal study; authorized translation of the seventh enlarged and revised German edition by Charles Gilbert Chaddock.  Philadelphia, PA, USA: F.A. Davis). The work first appeared in 1886 and was enormously popular, being reprinted about once a year, with the sixth edition in German and seventh in English most frequently cited.  Kraftt-Ebing noted in his introduction that he had “deliberately chosen a scientific term for the name of the book, to discourage lay readers” fearing that lay readers would misread what was written and offer bizarre interpretations–his prophecy has been realized.  As an Austrian man of the nineteenth century and living in a Roman Catholic culture, Richard von Krafft-Ebing believed that procreation was the purpose of sexual desire.  He argued that any form of recreational sexual intercourse was a perversion of the sex drive, and perceived women as sexually passive, and thus recorded no sexual case studies of sadistic or fetishistic women.  Many problems known today have come from this work, and especially from the word “homosexual” (it originally was “sexual inversion”) that was coined by [Henry] Havelock Ellis–who lived to regret creating the word (it is not an original Greek word); read: Ellis, [Henry]Havelock and John Addington Symonds (1897) Sexual inversion : a critical edition; edited by Ivan Crozier. Houndmills, Basingstoke, Hamphire, UK and New York, NY, USA: Palgrave Macmillan, 2008; the first edition was known simply as Sexual Inversion and was published in Philadelphia, PA, USA: F.A.Davis Co. [c1901].

Michele Bachmann (AP Jim Mone)

In July 2009, Michele Bachmann’s Congressional district–which has a policy requiring school employees to be “neutral” about homosexuality in front of students–settled with a student for $25,000 who said two teachers had harassed him for being gay by  tag-teaming an 18-year-old boy with relentless anti-gay taunts and jokes.  By all medical and psychological / psychiatric definitions this was bullying, and shows a mental malaise on the part of the teachers as well as with the students who tolerated their unprofessional conduct (American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, (March 2011), No. 80, notes that “boys tend to use physical intimidation or threats, regardless of the gender of their victims.  Bullying by girls is more often verbal, usually with another girl as the target”; available online).  As the American Psychological Association notes, bullying stems from fear and apathy in any workplace culture of submissiveness, especially in schools where teachers try to be friends with the students, rather than display authority by being subject matter experts who do not tolerate lackadaisical  students or poor work performance.

Teachers become bullies when they want to appear as “part of the group”–lessening their status as teachers and endangering the student of any age.  Verbal or physical aggression is used by the bully to achieve a superior standing, and if the victim fails, withdraws, or commits suicide, the bully considers that he or she has won and prove his or her superiority.

Life means nothing to the bully, unless the bully is personally attacked.  At that time the bully cries foul and blames others for his or her misfortune and attempts to justify his or her bullying as demonstrating his allegiance to a higher power (usually a god or religion, but also to a senior military or political figure).  Evangelical and Apocalyptic Christians (such as the New Apostolic Reformation) justify violence in the name of peace, and harken to Matthew 10:34, where Jesus, it is written, said he came to the Planet Earth to bring a sword–not peace (matching radical Islam and their quest for a holy war: جهاد‎  appearing 41 times in the Qur’an and should be interpreted not as a war or struggle, but as “striving in the way of God”.  It has become a war was primarily considered to be against unbelievers identical to the intolerance of Christians who reject those who live lives different from them).  This has been the common modus operandi for many of the teachers in the Anoka-Hennepin school system in Minneapolis, where there are significant numbers of teachers and students who are members of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod that highlights bigotry (such as referring to the Pope as the Anti-Christ, demeaning the role of women by quoting from the Letters of Paul that a woman must submit herself to her husband’s rule, and so forth), and staunch Republican supporters.  They fear the rise of labor and the Middle Class at their expense, and since many are Lutherans, they are taught Martin Luther’s message concerning a rebellious workforce: Wider die räuberischen  und  mörderischen Rotten der Bauern–a social conflict that conservative Minnesotans see as injurious to their economic stability even though to thwart labor brings down the state’s productivity and prosperity.  Using this popular fear Michele Bachmann has been able to be repeatedly returned to the US House of Representatives.

Bachmann’s scapegoat is the LGBT movement.  It gives her ammunition to rifle in votes, and at the same it feeds into her husband’s cannibalistic “practice” of reparative psychology; the community of the Sixth District is to tightly controlled by religion that both continue without being challenged:  Marcus is not a licensed psychologist by the State of Minnesota, but recognized as a counselor who offers a “cure” to homosexuality so that homosexuals can “return” to the “real world” and be accepted.  As the American Psychological Association notes, reparative psychology has caused more psychological problems that have led many to suicide.  Marcus Bachmann could never be a member of the American Psychological Association, as he has broken every rule established by the group, has gone against every researched and tested method endorsed by the APA, and has brought a deep tarnish to the association and its members.  Marcus Bachmann is not just a fraud, but a man deeply troubled without a clue as to what psychology is about.  At the same time his backward thinking and the practice of his colleagues at the “Bachmann Clinic” that receives federal funds, causes more damage to those who are disturbed than produces any positive results in ending personal fears or desires for suicide.  It is the insensibility, craven greed of the Bachmanns who led the charge over a decade ago against basic human rights and freedoms, especially the right to be one’s self, that has led nine students in the Sixth Congressional District at the Anoka-Hennepin schools to end their lives in the last two years.  Michele and Marcus Bachmann are guilty of fostering hate, of silently encouraging violence and bullying, while Michele has spoken out repeatedly against any legislation that would outlaw or criminalize bullying. Michele Bachmann should stand trial for her part in the suicides of the young in her district and throughout the USA.

Samantha Johnson (MN)

Samantha Johnson (MN)

Four of the nine students who died by suicide in Michele Bachmann’s Congressional district were believed to have faced harassment stemming either from a gay sexual orientation or from the perception among pers that they might have been gay, including seventh-grade student Samantha Johnson who entered Fred Moore Middle School (now Anoka Middle School for the Arts).  Students at the girl’s school harassed her on the assumption that she was a lesbian. They also mocked Samantha for her weight. When Samantha made an extra effort one day to dress more like other girls in her class, her mother says the harassment only worsened.  In November, Samantha’s mother, Michele Johnson, returned home and found her daughter dead in the bathtub. Samantha had put a hunting rifle in her mouth and shot herself.

Haylee Fentress

In April 2011, Haylee Fentress and Paige Moravetz

Paige Moravetz

carried out a suicide pact because they said they were being bullied by religious groups in their school.  Both girls complained about the bullies; the teachers only laughed, the principal did not act.

Being the best of friends, who even had gone so far as to hyphenated both of their last names, hanged themselves in a carefully planned suicide pact–to end the ever-increasing religious intolerance of their classmates who claimed to be speaking for god and threatening the girls that they were going to “hell”–a place no one ever had seen but heard about it by their pastors pounding hate-stained pulpits and tables.  Gehenna would have been better, as at least it is today a garden–unlike the wasteland of their school that had become an open-pit of bitterness for both.

In May 2011, 14-year-old Jordan Yenor killed himself.  He had grown weary of the students slander, the licentiousness of their libels, and their faux-Christian righteousness. He was the latest suicide in the Anoka-Hennepin district that

Jordan Yenor

Michele Bachmann represents and has worked with her husband to “pray away the gay” and prevent any protection for LGBTs.

Yenor committed suicide as the result of his not being able to handle more bullying by religious fundamentalists.  On his Facebook page, his “friends” and classmates accused him of being gay.  What Yenor did not receive from any counselor or teacher was an affirmation that it is okay to be gay–that being gay is genetic and what counts is the production of the individual, or as Abram Maslow wrote: being self-actualized in his paper “A Theory of Human Motivation”.  Yenor never had the opportunity of time to discover himself and realize that he was a good person regardless of his sexual orientation and interest, as homosexuality has always been a part of the world in which we all live.

Being gay is neither sinful nor wrong.  Being gay is a lifestyle that a person is born into.  Any LGBT person has as much value as any heterosexual–and as much right to excel, exceed, and experience the full pleasure that comes with living.

No one choses to be gay.  No person elects to put himself or herself out in front of intolerant theological thugs who tread on individual liberties. This is more in keeping with theocracies, such as Iran, where there are no Constitutional protections, where all people must believe in the same deity, practice identical dietary rules, and contribute to the charities detailed in the only holy book that those in charge of society claim exists.

Christian terrorists are everywhere.  Christian terrorists range from Timothy McVey who bombed the federal building in Oklahoma City, to mass murderer Ander Breivik (born 13 February 1979) in Norway who was opposed to multiculturalism, was pro-Israel/far-right Zionist and strongly anti-Muslim; today they flourish in the USA behind the masques of the New Apostolic Reformation, the Tea Party and its undisguised racism, the reemerging Ku Klux Klan (now growing strong in Iowa, having started in Davenport, Sioux City, Waterloo, Ottumwa and Des Moines, and other northern states), and are responsible for as many deaths as the merchants of hate do in Islam where there is no pity, no mercy, no kindness–only a submission to a vicious god that equals the tyranny of the deity that builds fortresses between people in Minnesota and throughout the world as flock-stealing becomes acceptable with one denomination sending ministers and missionaries into the lands that already have established religions: thus Lutherans and Mormons enter Peru, Scientologists invade France and Germany, and Islam spreads out over the African and Asian continents–each like a giant fungus determined to sweep opposition away from its talons.  What they all have in common is hatred for LGBT people, pass laws (usually backed up and supported by some spurious scripture) to deny LGBT people basic human and civil rights, and legislate draconian denunciations that demand the death penalty for LGBT people from Uganda and Liberia to Nigeria and beyond–with Bradlee Dean, a former cocaine addict, in Minnesota applauding the Muslims who execute LGBT people in the Arab and non-Arab world and the law sponsored and written by USA evangelical Republican Christians.

The use of Facebook is one of the most common forms of devastating cyberbullying.  Cyberbullying, instead of happening face-to-face, happens through the use of technology such as computers, cell phones and other electronic devices.  There are numerous cases now being reported of where cyberbullying–especially by young girls who are jealous of other girls, use cyberspace to demean, ridicule, and humiliate perceived rivals and cast blame on others for something that they did themselves.  This has led to an increase in suicides in more affluent areas.

Cyberbullying peaks around the end of middle school and the beginning of high school. Research on cyberbullying has found that students involved are more likely to those who are target of cyberbullying being unwilling to attend school, most frequently receive poor grades, have lower self-esteem, and have more health problems.  Cyberbullying can have particular effects on those who are targeted: especially if the victim is perceived as fat or obese, ugly, wears jewelry that is considered taboo within a certain area (such as piercing lips, chins, and so forth), seek or have a same-sex partner/attraction, and go to small or mainline tolerant churches.  In Minnesota, many of the students found to be engaged in cyberbullying go to the more radical evangelical churches and hate-groups like the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod churches where people are attacked for being Roman Catholic, homosexual, or not a part of fanatical fundamentalism. Research has found that young people who have been cyberbullied are significantly more likely to use and alcohol and drugs (especially marijuana and Methamphetamine: a central nervous system stimulant drug that is similar in structure to amphetamine, and increases alertness, concentration, energy, and in high doses, may induce euphoria, enhance self-esteem–especially in the case where a person is bullied or feels unwanted or unneeded–and increase libido; it is highly addictive), skip school or are late to classes, and experience in-person bullying or victimization.

From a psychological perspective, people do not choose to use drugs to the point that their personal relationships are ruined, they go broke, or are imprisoned.  People who do use recreational drugs, do so because they are convinced that they know when to stop or that they cannot become addicted to the drug of choice. This is incorrect; people do misuse drugs, and because of their addictive behavior, especially when it creates the illusion of comfort, popularity, and acceptance, are used repeatedly.  When the illusion is broken, either because the person using the drugs cannot afford additional supplies, or because it takes increasingly greater use and quantity that cannot be paid for, the individual becomes despondent, and in many cases will attempt suicide.  However, suicides because of drugs make up only a small percentage of all self-inflicted deaths; the greatest number come from a will to die because of an incurable and disabling illness or because of bullying.

In July the National Center For Lesbian Rights and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) filed a lawsuit against the Anoka-Hennepin school district on behalf of five current and former students who say they were harassed due to their sexual orientation. Teachers and the principal were named as conspirators against LGBT students and listed as defendants.  The U.S. Department of Education considers gay bullying to be a civil rights issue and have earned the scorn and contempt of Michele Bachmann who has vowed to shut down the Department of Education if she is elected President of the USA in 2012, detailing her revulsion to any compromise with “minions of Satan” who promote homosexuality, speaking in Iowa with Pastor Jeff Mullen of Point of Grace Church in Waukee where the confession of the congregation is on the (1) infallible Bible that is without error, (2) salvation is only through Jesus, and (3) faith alone gives salvation: it is a part of the radical New Apostolic Reformation that believes Jesus will ride out of the sky on a horse, carrying a sword, and personally killing all those who do not belief he alone is triumphant.

Jeff Mullen cult leader of Point of Grace church

Considered by many to be a closeted homosexual, Jeff Mullen “took a much more active role in the anti-retention campaign, setting up a website dedicated almost exclusively to getting rid of the ‘seven rogue justices’ and asked ‘pastors to register voters on the Sundays.’ Mississippi’s American Family Association, which the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated an anti-gay hate group, supported his efforts.”  His cult retains its IRS tax-exempt status–at least for the moment, but it is under investigation as he used his church for political purposes that attacks Jefferson’s wall separating state and church.

Both the 7th and the 9th Circuit Courts of Appeal have ruled that schools must take steps to protect students from known anti-gay harassment. In the suit filed,  the SPLC alleges that the anti-gay policy violates the Equal Protection Clause, Title IX, and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.  Last week a companion suit was filed on behalf of a lesbian student who attended Jackson Middle School in Champlin. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports:

The newer suit alleges that the middle school student was called “faggot” and “dyke,” among other slurs, and even was punched in the stomach once. When she reported the harassment to teachers and administrators, the suit says, they did nothing to protect her. The earlier suit alleges that students endured slurs, getting stabbed with pencils, pushed into walls, shoved into lockers, and even being urinated on by classmates because of real or perceived sexual orientation. It claims that district and school officials’ response to such harassment was “grossly inadequate,” and that administrators told the students in some cases to “lay low,” “ignore” the harassment, and “stay out of people’s way.” District officials have countered that they have anti-bullying policies in place that address such issues.

The school may have policies against bullying, but those are undermined by another rule that states:

“Anoka-Hennepin staff, in the course of their professional duties, shall remain neutral on matters regarding sexual orientation including but not limited to student led discussions.”

The school district has a policy on the books known colloquially as “no homo promo,”  pushed by the Bachmanns.  The suits aim is to have the policy repealed, on grounds that it stigmatized homosexual students and promotes harassment since the teachers are told not to respond to any hate-crime speech or belittling anyone based on sexual orientation.

Lance Lundsten

Lance Lundsten, a Jefferson High School student, was

Thomas "TJ" Hayes

openly gay on his Facebook page.  Facing constant bullying, Lance took an overdose and later died in hospital in March, 2009.  The cause of Lundsten’s suicide also was the cause of the suicide of Thomas John ‘TJ’ Hayes,  in 2009: bullying from religious extremists and taunts that each would “go to hell” because of their “evil lifestyle”–claiming, incorrectly, that the Bible condemns homosexuality.

Aaron Jurek

Aaron Jurek, a student at Blaine High School, became so depressed–a depression that was never diagnosed, that in November 2009, he also committed suicide in Bachmann’s district–rehearsing her hate speech that LBGTs deserve no attention or protection, but must be considered sick and sinful.  Michele Bachmann’s constant repetition of the word of homosexual and the sin of homosexuality continues to cost lives in the Minnesota LGBT community, further polarized by the uneducated self-styled pastor of hate Bradlee Dean [Smith], the lead drummer in the Heavy Metal band “Junkyard Prophets.”  Dean [Smith] are directly responsible for the suicides for the public proclamations of hate (Dean created a hate-filled organization called “You Can Run but You Can’t Hide, that Tim Pawlenty and other Republicans in Minnesota have endorsed as a “god-send” to rid Minnesota of LGBT people) and are accessories who should be charged with contributing to the death of minors.

Michele Bachmann (L) and Bradlee Dean (R). He is a Minnesota radio host, anti-gay activist, and drummer

Bachmann refuses to speak about the suicides.  Dean claims it is his god’s punishment, and applauds the Iranian government that executes gays and lesbians as young as age 4.  His “preaching” ultimately inspired the Minnesota State Legislature to invite him to offer the prayer for its opening session–a time he used to belittle Obama (suggesting that the President is not a Christian) and lamenting that Christians were  being discriminated again.  He used his presence in the legislature to raise funds for his organized hate group YCRBYCH.

The word “homosexual” does not even appear in the lexicon of languages until 1892.  Today it appears in poorly translated editions of the Bible that did not translate from the original scrolls.

Health officials in Minnesota recognize that Michele Bachmann’s Anoka-Hennepin school system is in a region that is a “suicide contagion” area due to the high number of suicides and suicide attempts. Advocates say gay teens make up a large percentage of that group. Disturbingly, it seems they aren’t just being targeted by their idiotic classmates. According to Reuters, a 2009 study found that 84% of LGBT students in Minnesota had been subjected to bullying.

Michele Bachmann 2011

Bachmann covertly endorsed the rash of gay suicides, telling   an audience in 2004 that “gay” is a Satanic misnomer when applied to men who love men and women who love women, dredging up the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod’s stand on Satan (which also equates the Pope as the Anti-Christ, based on the dementia of Martin Luther in the sixteenth century).  As a state lawmaker, Bachmann worked against protections for LGBT youths in the state’s schools.  Bachmann dismissed the possibility that LGBTs might actually be happy if left alone, telling her listeners that gays lead “unhappy” lives, and seeming to mean that unhappiness stems from being gay, rather than being punished for it.Experts on the issue note that Minnesota has one of the weakest antibullying laws among U.S. states), and now on the rise in Massachusetts (especially with the scandalous case of 15-year-old Phoebe Prince who had recently

immigrated from Ireland, and was bullied daily with slurs and insults, physical assaults and worse–even after she died by hanging herself, with Christians leaving taunting messages on her Facebook page, celebrating her suicide, that had to be removed at her family’s request), New York (where 14-year-old

Jamey Rodemeyer was shouted down by “Christians” calling for his death; with the Buffalo police now opening an investigation into the suicide as a hate-crime pushed by fundamentalist fanatics, proposing a charge of “criminal

bullying“), Minnesota (Justin Aaberg, a gay 15-year-old from Champlain,  hanged himself after being bullied by a student religious group whose members told Justin that he was going to hell because he was gay; he was one of the nine suicides in Michele Bachmann’s district in 2010, where the presidential candidate for the Republican nomination and her husband, Marcus, push “reparative” therapy that has been condemned by every medical and registered psychological group in the USA and abroad), Texas (where a 9-year-old

boy, Montana Denton Lance at Stewart Creek Elementary School North Dallas, hung himself in the boy’s bathroom after being repeatedly bullied by evangelical extremists in his school), and other states.  More pre-teenagers (the majority are female) die from suicide than from any other disease including cancer.  According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 11-year-old

Jaheem Herrera (age 11)

Jaheem Herrera, a fifth-grader at Dunaire  Elementary School in DeKalb, Georgia  hung himself inside his home, after being called “gay” and a “snitch”.   One week before his twelfth birthday,

Carl Walker-Hoover

Carl Walker-Hoover, in Georgia, committed suicide in April after months of being tormented with anti-gay slurs.  Sean McDonald was only 11 when he hung himself on May 26, 1999, suffering from mood-swings that few troubled themselves to understand.

There are also older teens who kill themselves because of Christian bullying, as was the case with Tyler Clementi — an 18-year-old student at Rutgers University — jumped to his death from the George Washington bridge after a sexual encounter he had with another man was allegedly streamed online by his roommate at Rutgers University students — Dharun Ravi, Tyler’s roommate, and Molly Wei — who placed a camera in Tyler’s dormitory room and streamed the images onto the internet on Sept. 19.  Tyler was a gifted and award-winning violinist, who played with the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra and participated in the Bergen Youth Orchestra as concertmaster and considered to be one of the finest new/youngest talents in the USA.

Tyler Clementi (age 18) commits suicide at Rutgers University

On April 20, Ravi received a 15-count indictment, including a charge of the hate crime of bias intimidation, for his alleged actions that led to Tyler’s death, and for trying to cover up it up afterward. Weeks later, Wei struck a plea deal to avoid jail time on the condition she testifies against Ravi.

Suicide rates in USA (highest in evangelical states)

Children as young as five will kill themselves if taunted by a bully screaming that the child will go to “hell”. The bullies, such as Dakota Ary, a Texas anti-gay Christian high school freshman, received a two-day detention after announcing in his German class that “homosexuality is wrong” and claims his “religious beliefs” allow him to make anti-gay comments in class, are the actual murderers.  Bullies, cyberbullies, and “students”, such as Dakota Ary, a youth who is guilty of using hateful words, are supported and defended regularly

Dakota Ary, 14, of Fort Worth, Texas claims his religions gives him a right to initiate hate crimes

by virulently anti-gay Liberty Counsel— loosely affiliated with Jerry Falwell and his Liberty “University”.  What Ary forgets, conveniently, is that freedom of speech is limited. Free speech cannot cause the loss of life.  The US Supreme Court ruled that no one is entitled to express oneself if that expression endangers the life of another (Schenck v. United Statesin 1919; in this case, Justice Holmes wrote of falsely shouting fire, because, of course, if there were a fire in a crowded theater, one may rightly indeed shout “Fire!”; one may, depending on the law in operation, even be obliged to. Falsely shouting “Fire!” in a crowded theater, i.e. shouting “Fire!” when one believes there to be no fire in order to cause panic, was interpreted not to be protected by the First Amendment).  All people, however, can express any opinion no matter how odious as long as it does not threat life or create noticeable harm; suicides take life and cause harm to the family.

Fox “News” regularly sides with the bullies and even has on its staff a “psychiatrist” who argues that homosexuality is a choice in direct opposition to every stand taken and publications authored by licensed and recognized psychologists and psychiatrists by the American Psychiatric Association and American Psychological Association: Keith Russell Ablow (born November 23, 1961) and is not a member of either organization but who still audaciously

Keith Ablow on Fox News

claims to be an authority in the field of psychiatry, and has private practices in Massachusetts and New York–but he is not a member of the American Psychiatric Association (Ablow, openly argues in favor of discrimination, especially against LGBT people; see:  “Discrimination Won’t Be Tolerated, Says APA President” Psychiatric News Update. September 14, 2011). While a medical student, he worked as a reporter for Newsweek and a freelancer for the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun as his interest lies in journalism, making his career in television and writing and not staying current with psychiatric research.  His publications in the areas of depression, anxiety disorders and substance abuse disorders have never passed peer review and only have been “published” on FoxNews.com.

While the rapid increase in suicides is true (or at least more noticeable) in larger communities where numerous LGBT people have committed suicide because of ridicule, ostracization, or physical assaults by those who feel that there is only one acceptable lifestyle: heterosexuality, it also exists in smaller,

Seth Walsh (age 13)

rural (as with Seth Walsh, age 13 at Tehachapi, Calif.) or isolated communities where education is marginal and knowledge of the genetic nature of sexual selection and preference is unknown or ridiculed.

The idea that homosexuality is a perversion or unnatural is patently untrue, and is not accepted by any legitimate organization, such as the American Psychological Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association (with all other professional psychological associations in the USA, Europe, and where competently taught subjects on mental orders and disorders: “opposes, the use of “reparative” or “conversion” therapy that is based upon the assumption that homosexuality per se is a mental disorder or based upon the a priori assumption that the patient should change his/her homosexual orientation” as wrongfully practiced by Marcus Bachmann, Keith Ablow, and other pseudopsychologists/psuedopsychiatrists; redefined more vigorously on July 12, 2011: H-65.992, 983, 990, B-1.50, 6.524, etc.), American Counseling Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, and others. Homosexuality has always been and is

Roy and Silo, two Central Park Zoo male Chinstrap Penguins similar to those pictured, became internationally known when they coupled and later were given an egg that needed hatching and care, which they successfully did

(1) natural (it happens among all species found in nature; a breakdown by species is at Bruce Bahemihl, Ph.D. (2000), Biological Exhuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity, New York, NY, USA: St. Martin’s Press, page 35 ),

(2) normal (it is a recurring experience/ event, especially in preteen and teenage years, with hotlines established by the medical communities to help troubled teens, especially those contemplating suicide) despite that the most ignorant and uneducated legislators complain that it is abnormal and against the will of their particular deities, as with Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and her husband Marcus who claims to be a psychologists but bought his degree over

Oklahoma state Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City

the internet, Oklahoma Republican state legislator Sally Kern whose statements have led many into attempting suicide (she claims that she “bashes gays for Jesus”) and was publicly rebuked by the Oklahoma House of Representatives for negative comments she made against women and minorities; Kern implicitly blamed gay marriage and President Barack Obama’s official acknowledgment of Gay and Lesbian Pride Month (among other things) for the economic crisis, when predicting that the USA would only survive another twenty years.  Kern said nothing about the rising number of LGBT

Zach Harrington (age 19)

suicides in Oklahoma, such as that of Zach Harrington, a 19-year-old, talented musician who endured years of struggles due to his sexual orientation in high school in conservative Norman, Oklahoma, and attended a three-hour public hearing on a proposal to declare October gay history month in the city.  He internalized all the hate he heard, according to his sister, from people his parents’ age who screamed about a loving Jesus who would come with vengeance against Oklahoma for considering such a motion.

Bob Vander Plaats (Iowa 2011)

Kern is the southern version of  the Midwestern mindset of  Bob Vander Plaats (a self-style evangelist who was a one-time/part-time coach and high school principal, with no theological or medical education) of Iowa claims it is addictive “like smoking” and “bullying is normal” even if it leads to suicide among those under 12 or in their teenage years–and was rebukedeven by the leadership of his own Republican Party for whom he campaigned to be governor of Iowa.  Vander Plaats and his wife have nothing but criticism of the LGBT community, but show nothing, not even a weak impression of what they claim to be Christianity in their statements and actions.  As it was reported (and a video made) of Vander Plaats this March listening to a man’s voice: “You know what my wife says?” After a brief pause, the off-camera man answers: “Iowa: Where you can’t smoke a fag but you can marry one.”  This form of hate-filled speech will have two results: encourage homophobic zealots to kill LGBT people, and increase the number of LGBT suicides in Iowa.  Slapping his thigh, Vander Plaats exploded in laughter, chortling “Good! That’s a good one!”

Vander Plaats exemplifies and personifies everything said about a backward thinking and operating Midwestern hayseed.

(3) good (it brings pleasure and self-fulfillment to the individual and the participant), and it was considered “good and pleasing to god” from the dating of Sumerian religions and others back to 15,000 BCE; even the early christian communities recognized homosexuality as being good as it was “created by our Lord” and for that reason married people of the same-gender (cf. http://www.enkiea.org/; neither Rome nor Greece rejected it (homosexual marriages were not outlawed until 324 CE, as recorded in the Theodosian Code (C. Th. 9.7.3); cp. Eskridge, William N. (October 1993). “A History of Same-Sex Marriage”. Virginia Law Review 79 (7): “While the statute [that prohibited same-sex marriage in ancient Rome] reinforces the impression that same-sex marriages were not uncommon in the Roman Empire, it also evidences an anxiety about same-sex unions that antedated the 4th century. At the end of the 2nd century, for example, Plutarch’s Moralia included a dialogue filled with invective both for and against same-sex relationships, suggesting that their propriety was a matter of some controversy. A subsequent anonymous dialogue entitled Affairs of the Heart was sympathetic to same-sex relationships but sharply distinguished them from marriage”.

Jesus said nothing about homosexuality (neither about heterosexual nor homosexual marriage).  The only “condemnation” came from Saul of Tarsus years after Jesus died, and then the passage refers to the changing of understanding by ignoring what is and hopes to mentally change the individual within the mind.  Homosexuality is not condemned until the thirteenth century, and then by Thomas Aquinas as a crime against nature because of a gross mistranslation of Genesis 19 (where the crime actually is Lot’s incest with his daughters) and because of the unavailability or ignored explanation in Ezekiel 16:49.

During the early middle ages, homosexuality became a scapegoat sin that explained how everything from natural disasters to military losses could befall ostensibly Christian cities, and with it came the transmogrification of the nightmares of John Patmos and the evolution of a physical war by a physical Jesus riding a white horse into battle with a sword (cp. Matthew 10:34 and my articles on the Apocalypse here and here).  Read:  Crompton, Louis (2003). Homosexuality and Civilization. Cambridge, MA, USA : Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, 623 p).  Most biblical literalists want to read the Apocalypse as if it were prophecy, which it is not.  It is the writings of a depressed, pressured old man living on an island imprisoned by the Roman government, and it is a tale about events of the day: not a prediction of what might happen tomorrow.  No one at the time of the writing ascribed to John Patmos knew the law of gravity, or would have know it would be impossible to ride a horse from the sky to the earth.  No one at that time knew of automatic weapons, but still relied on a sword.  Each of the plagues and signs are easily explained, for those who will take time to research and study science.

(4) it has the added benefit of it being nature’s perfect form of birth control in an already overpopulated world consuming rapidly dwindling natural resources.

Jerry Buell

Those who are primarily responsible for the suicides are self-appointed “ambassadors of Christ” who, like Jerry Buell, feel that their faith compels them to speak out against homosexuality and sin.  The social studies teacher at Mount Dora High School (Lake County, Florida) does not mince words when it comes to his religion.  Like other hate-mongers urging LGBTs to commit suicide, Buell argues:  “I’m exercizing my rights, First Amendment rights, guaranteed in the Constitution, supported by the state of Florida — on Facebook”.  No matter how odious and obnoxious Buell is in his messages of hate, with the current US Supreme Court, he is right–and he is enabled to damage as many lives as there are those who will not think for themselves but listen to his rants based on fiction. What psychologists know is that when something has been a repeatedly tested and proven fact impressionable youth, like older people, will do what they are told if they see the speaker either as an authority figure or as someone who could do them harm: a demon/god, a career decider and potential employer or recommenders, and so forth.  The students he does not destroy he will be instrumental in convincing them that their only option is suicide.

Depression, one of the most commonly diagnosed psychiatric disorders is being diagnosed in increasing numbers in various segments of the population worldwide, and is often a precipitating factor in suicide (Torzsa P, Szeifert L, Dunai K, Kalabay L, Novák M (September 2009). “A depresszió  diagnosztikája  és kezelése a családorvosi gyakorlatban”. Orvosi Hetilap 150 (36): 1684–93). Depression in the United States alone affects 17.6 million Americans each year or 1 in 6 people (Lambert K.G. (2006). “Rising rates of depression in today’s society: Consideration of the roles of effort-based rewards and enhanced resilience in day-to-day functioning”. Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews 30(4): 497–510) especially acute in students (American Psychological Association (August 12, 2010), “College Students Exhibiting More Severe Mental Illness, Study Finds,” on-line).  This depression is frequently the result of humiliation, peer pressure and ridicule, and the taunting of teachers such as Buell and those in Minnesota, while others, especially in Texas, do not want to be (or feel intimidated) involved with a student’s personal problems.  These are the actions of other people leading the victim to take his or her life.  The bullies are playing the role of Socrates’ judge in ancient Athens, while the victims become martyrs to the will of the vocal minority by committing suicide (Plato. Apology, 24–27 and at the end of Phaedo; however, there is a counter-argument to Plato in Waterfield, Robin (2009). Why Socrates Died: Dispelling the Myths. New York: W.W.Norton and Company, with Waterfield suggesting that it was a ceremonial cleansing to rid Athens of its guilt and by offering a token rooster of appreciation for Asclepius Socrates’ death would represent a cure for the ailments of Athens).

Michele Bachmann: Her financial advisors and criminal supporters

Michele Bachmann addressing Americans for Prosperity (2011) a part of the Tea Party

In the late 1970s, Michele Bachmann began her emergence as an evangelical extremist who has, in so many ways, copied the menacing messages of Adolf Hitler who took the foundations for his government of Nazis directly from the pages of Martin Luther.  Luther wrote, concerning the Jews (from On the Jews and Their Lies):

  • Accordingly, it must and dare not be considered a trifling matter but a most serious one to seek counsel against this and to save our souls from the Jews, that is, from the devil and from eternal death. My advice, as I said earlier, is:
  • First, that their synagogues be burned down, and that all who are able toss sulphur and pitch; it would be good if someone could also throw in some hellfire…
  • Second, that all their books– their prayer books, their Talmudic writings, also the entire Bible– be taken from them, not leaving them one leaf, and that these be preserved for those who may be converted…
  • Third, that they be forbidden on pain of death to praise God, to give thanks, to pray, and to teach publicly among us and in our country…
  • Fourth, that they be forbidden to utter the name of God within our hearing. For we cannot with a good conscience listen to this or tolerate it.

Only Christians were to be allowed in Hitler’s nation: “We demand the freedom of all religious denominations in the State insofar as they do not endanger its existence or violate the ethical and moral feelings of the Germanic race. The Party as such takes its stand on a positive Christianity but does not tie itself in the matter of confession to any particular denomination. It fights the spirit of Jewish materialism inside and outside ourselves and it is convinced that a lasting recovery of our nation can only come from within and on the basis of the principle that the common good comes before the selfish good.” (Rhum von Oppen, Beate.  Religion and Resistance to Nazism. Center of international studies, Princeton University, 1971, p. 25)  It differs little from Bachmann’s concept of a Christian USA.  In April 1933 the German Christians adopted a constitution, one article of which reads, “Christian faith exacts war against atheistic Marxism and ultramontanism.  A religion such as ours conforms to nature in being a message of salvation to all men, though it is given to each folk in a special way.” (Shuster, George N. Like a Mighty Army. New York: D. Appleton-Century, 1935, p. 99)

The movement was initially quite popular.  Although the German Christian values were not endorsed by the general Lutheran community, the movement did garner significant support.  Of Germany’s 17,000 Protestant pastors, 3000 were fervent enough in the support of Hitler to join the German Christian movement. The Methodists and Baptists in Germany were equally loyal supporters of Nazi ideology. Dr. F. H. Otto Melle, became the first Bishop of the German Methodist Episcopal Church, and collaborated even more actively than Dr. John L. Nuelsen (1867-1946), a German American who moved to Germany in 1912.  Each of the pastors in Nazi Germany spoke of a “Christian worldview” (christliche Weltanschauung).  Compare the role of Germans in the Third Reich to what Bachmann envisions at http://www.colby.edu/personal/r/rmscheck/GermanyE5.html. For the transcript on religion in the Third Reich as recorded at Nuremberg, read: http://www.nizkor.org/hweb/imt/tgmwc/tgmwc-09/tgmwc-09-81-02.shtml.

Bachmann leading prayer at the certified organized hate group Family Research Council asking Jesus for mercy for the sins of the lawmakers who support the health care reform bill.

Bachmann, today, enunciates a “Christian worldview,” which essentially holds that Christianity, or at least her version of Christianity, is a total ideology:   It has all the answers, not just to theological questions, but to historical questions, scientific questions, economic questions and questions not yet asked.  Michele takes “polls” on nearly everything, and then lies about the results.  This happened when she took the stage to denounce gay rights, even though she has a gay step-sister (Helen LeFavre), and claims that when she asked her family they all agreed with her that gays and lesbians were not entitled to rights.  Her own brother came out against Michele and called her a liar and not representative of her family.

Michele Bachmann claims that she has the support of her district in Minnesota.  While that is marginally correct, she has never once won her own hometown of Stillwater that consistently votes against her.  In 2009, Bachmann moved to a more conservative precinct—but could not win it until 2010.

Phyllis Schlafly, a lawyer, argued against the Equal Rights Amendment, stating that women did not need equal right with men

Bachmann does not get enough funding in her own Congressional district to win a race. Most of the money comes from outside interests, especially from the Tea Party.  In 2006, over $50,000 came from members of an organization called the Alliance for the Separation of School and State (an organization that calls for the abolition of all public education, not just eliminate the Secretary of Education, but all public schools).  The Alliance for the Separation of School and State is an on-line political action group, with the largest donors coming out of Georgia, where Barry Conner, a housing developer, donated thousands of dollars to Bachmann.  Much of the rest of her money came from Phyllis Schlafly’s group, the Eagle Forum, and Americans for Prosperity, with the final windfall coming from the financial services sector in the USA economy as Bachmann sits on the Financial Services Committee in Congress, and openly solicits “contributions”.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Tom Petters (before Petters received 50 year prison term)

The next biggest “group” that contributes to Michele Bachmann’s campaigns for public office is organized crime.  Frank Vennes, Jr., was one of her largest contributors in 2006. Vennes and his family and his personal lawyer have given Bachmann tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions. Vennes also contributed heavily to another Minnesota presidential candidate, Tim Pawlenty, and the state Republican Party.

Frank Vennes Jr, Tom Petters, Gov. Tim Pawlenty in Ponzi Scheme gala

Vennes is a convicted money launderer.  He did time in federal prison in Sandstone Prison in northern Minnesota, before aligning with the Petters Ponzi scheme, which netted about a $3.5 billion and operated in Minnesota, with Vennes steering, primarily, evangelical Christian groups to invest with Tom Petters.  While in prison, Vennes claimed to have found Jesus when he was imprisoned for cocaine possession, distribution, and sale, and for money laundering.  Having found Jesus, and made himself a kind of stalwart of Minnesota’s evangelical community, cozied up with Michele and her husband and Bradlee Dean (the Heavy Metal drummer in the band Junkyard Prophecy, who claims to be a “Bible-based believer” and sports a tattoo although tattoos are forbidden in the Bible: Leviticus 19:28; on the extremism of conspiracy theorist Bradlee Dean, read: http://www.dumpbachmann.com/2009/10/michele-bachmanns-fellow-traveller.html who is an advisor to Michele Bachmann) and cultivated these powerful allies, especially Bachmann and former Minnesota Governor Pawlenty, both of whom are running to be President of the USA.  Bachmann and future-Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) petitioned for Vennes to be pardoned (for copies of their letters, see: http://vennesinfo.blogspot.com/2011/04/letters-from-michele-bachmann-and-norm.html).

Bachmann addressing issue of "dirty" money

After it became public knowledge that Michele Bachmann took “dirty” money from Vennes, numerous charitable groups and rehabilitation centers returned the money to the Minnesota Congresswoman, as occurred when the faith-based drug treatment program Minnesota Teen Challenge returned $9,200 that Bachmann gave them. Rep. Bachmann failed to report the money being returned to her campaign until her first quarter 2009 (http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/dcdev/forms/C00410118/412738/sa/ALL) campaign filing, a possible violation of Federal Election Commission rules (http://www.fec.gov/law/feca/feca.pdf).

The $9,200 — the same amount Vennes and his wife had contributed to Bachmann’s campaign in 2008 — did not show up on Bachmann’s pre-election, post-election or year-end quarterly FEC filings (http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/fecimg/?C00410118).  According to federal rules, the returned contribution should have shown up on one of these reports if it was returned to Bachmann’s campaign in October, as Scherber claims. Bachmann’s first quarter report shows that the Minnesota Teen Challenge donation was returned to the campaign on Jan. 1, 2009.

To understand the reason for this support, it is important to understand the political contributions of Frank Vennes Jr and his wife Kimberly Vennes:

  • MN House Rep Campaign Comm $85,750
  • Michele Bachmann $27,600
  • Mark Kennedy $11,300
  • Republican Party of Minnesota $10,000
  • John Kline $8,000
  • Tim Pawlenty (Governor) $7,500
  • Norm Coleman $6,000
  • Minnesotans for a Republican Cong $5,000
  • Erik Paulsen $4,600
  • Patrice Bataglia $4,000
  • Amy Klobuchar $2,000
  • George W. Bush $2,000
  • Ted Mondale (Governor) $2,000
  • Tim Tinglestad (District Cty Judge) $2,000
  • Republican National Committee $200

Vennes federal arrest warrant

In April, 2011, Vennes was indicted in the Petters scandal.  One reason most people have not heard of this Ponzi scheme is that it broke about the same time as Bernie Madoff’s scheme against fellow Jews. Vennes is scheduled to go to trial later this year, which could make for an uncomfortable time for Michele Bachmann, because in her letter of support for a pardon, she indicated she had a very close personal relationship with Frank Vennes and was quite familiar with his personal finances—which any court would read that Michele Bachmann was fully aware of his money laundering activity and his Ponzi schemes (on the Michele Bachmann and Frank Vennes tie, read: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jun/18/michele-bachmann-tea-party-us?CMP=twt_fd).

One of the greatest lies told by Michele Bachmann is her claim that she receives nothing in the way of federal funds for her farm in Buffalo County, Independence, Wisconsin, about 70 miles or so from Stillwater, Minnesota.  In truth, she has been receiving federal government subsidies of $260,000 from 1995 to 2006 (she raked in another $27,896 in federal farm subsidies in 2005: see: http://www.dumpbachmann.com/2007/06/michele-bachmanns-family-farm-still.html and http://www.ewg.org/news/michele-bachmann-s-family-farm-still-milking-federal-farm-subsidies-0 but prior to 2007, Bachmann listed “zero” as income, see the actual affidavit at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/congress/fin_dis/2006/b001256.pdf;  and http://www.ewg.org/news/bachmann-reaps-subsidy-benefit; cp. http://farm.ewg.org/persondetail.php?custnumber=003729514). Furthermore she has making profits from $2,500 to $150,000 according to her public financial disclosure forms required of all members of Congress.

US tax rates among lowest in world on corporations and declining rapidly

Congresswoman Bachmann is dangerous when it comes to economics and financial understanding.  While she denies that her part of the family farm in Wisconsin is not only receiving federal subsidies, but actually is showing an increasing profit, she has no respect for Congressional economists.  Instead of going to the experts hired by the US Congress, Bachmann states that the people should turn to Fox News’ former employee Glenn Beck.  In 2009, Bachmann told reporters: “People vote with their feet. And they love Bill O’Reilly; they love Glenn Beck. They love the shows that are on Fox. That’s what matters. Because people want to go where they can find truth. They obviously aren’t finding truth over on some of these other channels. [Emphasis in the original.]”  (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2009/09/22/61039/bachmann-hearts-fox/).   Bachmann has gone on Fox News to claim health care reform is unconstitutional (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2009/08/19/56907/bachmann-unconstitutional/), that the Census is dangerous because it was used to intern the Japanese (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2009/06/25/47650/bachmann-fox-census/), and that Alaskan caribou favor oil drilling because they like the warmth of the pipeline (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2008/06/20/25018/bachmann-caribou-coffee/), where, according to Bachmann the pipeline “become[s] a meeting ground and ‘coffee klatch’ for caribou” (http://politicalblogs.startribune.com/bigquestionblog/?p=1077).

Drilling in Refuge (AK) SF Chronicle graphic by Gus D'Angelo 8/28/2005

Contrary to Bachmann’s concepts in science, the exact opposite is true: Studies have also found that pipeline construction near caribou calving and summering areas can lead to “greater calf mortality” and the “reduction of the population” (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2008/06/20/25018/bachmann-caribou-coffee/ despite Rush Limbaugh’s claims that mating is increasing with enhanced reproduction {http://www.osti.gov/energycitations/product.biblio.jsp?osti_id=6065358} as increased drilling is forcing the native caribou out of the area: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/08/28/MNGR4EDJGT1.DTL). Michele Bachmann has a grotesque appetite to blame everything bad on the Democrats.  For example, she has claimed: “I find it interesting that… in the 1970s… swine flu broke out under another… Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. I’m not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it’s an interesting coincidence.”  The president at that time was Republican Gerald Ford.

In the area of politics, there is no negotiating, no recognition of differences of opinions. In the thinking of Michele Bachmann, all things are black or white:  “I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out: Are they pro-America or anti-America?”

Organized labor is a better deal than before for companies as productivity is high and costs low

Opposed to any pro-labor laws or rights for workers, Michele wishes to return to the nineteenth century when labor was a commodity businesses bought at their price without regard for the workers’ safety or health.  She is opposed to an eight-hour work day, a five-day work week, and even minimum wage.  Michele Bachmann went on record saying: If we took away the minimum wage – if conceivably it was gone – we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level.”

Inflation will remain very low in the USA according to the Bureau of Labor

Bachmann has argued that organized labor had led to run-away inflation.  That is a lie.  Inflation in the USA is lower than in any other industrialized nation–because of organized labor.

Where tax cuts exist and why the USA is the world's largest debtor nation

Not once did Bachmann suggest that she and the Tea Party in the Congress return to the salaries for Congressional Representatives and Senators as Congressional pay and benefits that were statutory at the turn of the twentieth century, nor did she volunteer to give up her taxpayer paid health care or retirement benefits program.  Michele Bachmann wants to be President of the USA.

United Nations Votes Against Human Rights

Homophobic bigotry has its historical roots in a misreading and mangled translation of ancient Babylonian myths that were plagiarized and incorporated into various Abrahamic (The people and languages Abrahamic religions arose from were in fact of one people—Jews, Christians and Arabs [many who were converted to Islam, usually at the point of a sword] who all claim to be descended from Shem) are among the Semites] writings in the Middle East–starting with the myth of Abraham (who was nothing less than the Apiru (it is found in Akkadian cuneiform texts that show a uniqueness near ancient Sanskrit. The corresponding name in the consonant-only Egyptian script appears to be PR.W, conventionally pronounced Apiru) transmogrification of the Hindu god Brahama (move the

Akkadian script: Peoples of the Battle of Kadesh

final “a” to the front of the name) who was carried along with a petty agricultural god (YHWH) into Canaan where the northern barbarians, who later were known as Israelites who created the mythology for a desert deity encased in a large black stone and known as Allah, rewrote history. (The earliest recorded instance of the term is dated to the reign of king Irkabtum of the north Mesopotamian, known in the bible as Amorite of the central kingdom of Yamkhad (c. 1740 BC), who had a year named “Year when king Irkabtum made peace with Semuma and the Habiru.” This has been taken to show that the Habiru led by Semuma already wielded such influence in the neighborhood of Alalakh that the local sovereign felt obliged to conclude a treaty with them.  There was nothing peaceful about the Apiru—on the contrary they were known as a filthy and evil foreign people who could not be trusted. It was for that reason the character of Lot was developed—a man so distrusted he had to sit in the outer gate to the brilliant and enlightened city of Sodom.)

Lot's cave where he impregnated his daughters (Gen. 19:36) outside Zoar

The original texts of ancient Apiru mythology details how a “Lot” (actually a word for a separating group of people from the original nomadic followers of Brahama who had made war plans to sack and destroy the City of Sodom, which in its day was known as “the Golden City of the Gods”) was rejected because of the Apiru demand for war when the Cities of the Plain were in armed conflict. Lot had to sit in the gate to judge “his” own people (Gen. 19:1)–and only was allowed a house within the walls to protect him and his extended family. When messengers (malak [in Arabic ملاك, Hebrew מַלְאָךְ, Aramaic מלא]: the original meaning of the ancient script in the Akkadian language), and Lot addresses them as “My Lords” conferring upon them military distinction (nowhere do we find the word for “angels” in the original scripts) came, they were rushed in without going through proper channels of the registration of foreigners. When (according to Genesis 19), the city council learned of Lot’s deception, “all the people, young and old together”, including women (Gen. 19:4), gathered before the house of Lot to demand to know (register) the messengers.  Lot refused and offered them his daughters (a common action) “to do with as you wish” (Gen. 19:8, including gang rape, molest, or kill) which exposes the corruption of this “patriarch”–who is patterned after “Abraham” who sold his wife Sarah into sexual slavery three times (by which he enriched himself with cattle, sheep, men and maid servants, etc; cf. Gen. 12-13f) before stealing her back from the various kings to he pimped his wife.

The absurd claim that evangelical and fundamental Christians and Muslims make is that the City of Sodom (and her sister cities: Gomorrah and Zoar) were destroyed because of homosexuality can quickly be dispatched although no rabid homophobe will ever give up this favored whipping post.  Ezekiel 16:49 states, clearly, that “the sin of Sodom” was “pride, fullness of bread, the inability to put forth the hand to help the needy” and so forth–sex is not even matched.

The Leviticus code declaring that “a man who lies down with a man” (Leviticus 20:13/16; cf. Lev. 18:22) is frequently brought up, but it exists only in bad medieval to medieval to modern translations neglects the original response “as if he were a woman” (meaning that it was a betrayal of self-acceptance, or a pretense in order to issue “an effusion”). This injustice continued against Canaanites who accepted homosexuality as a religious act “dog-priests” and the effusion was a sacred act symbolic of nurturing new life in a field (שּׂכּבּ)—the act was customary at times of planting and harvest.

There is no record of any “marriage” in the Torah (the only qualification for joining a man and a woman was that the wife [a word that meant helper or house slave] “is a virgin; and the Hebrew word (one) references cohabitation without ceremony or registration. The word for marriage as a ceremony does not appear until the European Middle Ages, when Jews refined it into the words erasing and insulin, the actual ceremony for the marriage. “Husband” is a Babylonian word (Baal [בעל] which is actually from the Akkadian Bēlu who was the Lord of an Assembly or a chief over gods or warriors) that actually translates as “master”. “Sanctification” of the union (Kiddushin, קידושין) actually comes much later in time.

If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed” (Deuteronomy 22:13-21). Interestingly, the contemporary concept of marriage appears no where in the later Jewish Bible, or in the initial Attic Greek Christian bible. Jesus goes to a “marriage feast” (John 2:2) only changes water into wine late during the “feast” (there is no record of a uniting ceremony). The text states that the host was upset as the best wine was saved “until last” (John 2:10f)—a notation that marriage was a public registration of commitment between two people (it states nowhere in the account that there was a bride nor a groom) and the purpose of the marriage was to “eat and drink until full” (drunk). If marriage was “religious” and “sacred” it is strange that the man who swore he would “fulfill the law” of Moses never married.

Not only did Jesus never marry—he never had a girlfriend; however he did let at least one man (John the Beloved) sleep on his chest (John 13:23, Luke 22:8)—and the only person he ever claimed to love was Lazarus (whom he “raised from the dead”—but who then disappears from all biblical account to make way for the advent of John the Beloved). Instead Jesus spent his entire public life around men, living with twelve, and having (Luke 10:1) 70 male disciples. In the day that Jesus allegedly lived, that would be considered the actions and traits of a gay man, as the only “married” man was Peter—and he lived with Jesus, abandoning his wife until she was on her death bed—similar to the way Newt Gingrich treated his wife (although Newt did bring his mistress to his wife’s death bed).

Evangelicals and fundamentals ignore the fact that Jesus preferred men over women, and find solace in the megaphone hatred of the mangled words of Saul of Tarsus (St Paul) whose writing latter has him stating that “effeminate men” (homosexuals) would not be allowed into heaven—but the original definition was lost: given to vanity, and it applies to men and women. But accuracy in translation has never been a strong part in religion, with all religions, especially Roman Catholicism and evangelical Protestants rewriting scripture to meet their own biases.

This crystallizes in the later “Koran” that appears more than a century after the death of “Muhammad” who was an illiterate camel driver–and who received Gabriel’s message while being deluded (to put it mildly) in the desert. He, knowing he could not read or write, Muhammad selected Remembrancers to listen to and memorize his tale of the Koran. They, in turn, remembered it and passed it to succeeding generations before it was written down—which gives cause to pause—as that was even the way the Torah and Bible came into being—with nothing being original. Out of this absence of academic accuracy come homophobic hatred, character and corporal attacks and religious sanctioned murders—now sanctioned by a once reputable, and respected institution that claimed to speak for all people: the draconic United Nations (See: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?t=81139&p=3941839 and http://www.huffingtonpost.com/thor-halvorssen/united-nations-its-okay-t_b_787024.html.

The proposal that was ratified to allow the execution of people for being gay or lesbian, or bisexual or transgender was sponsored by evangelical fundamental Christian groups and Muslims and Mormons. The fact of being a homosexual, regardless if the person practiced homosexuality, was not considered for this marginalized community was reclassified as being nonhuman and dangerous to the well-being of order. Religion quickly became the master of the United Nations, and all pretenses of the UN

sponsoring and supporting human rights were erased by a vote after the Roman Catholic church, leaders of the Mormon cult, and representatives of Muslim nations (along with several from Latin American nations) demanded that “homosexuality be stamped out” (see: http://www.spectator.co.uk/melaniephillips/6520779/latest-un-shocker-its-ok-to-kill-gays.thtml). Uganda and other African nations promised an immediate push to execute gays and lesbians where ever they are found (http://www.towleroad.com/2009/12/uganda-kill-gays-bill-likely-to-pass.html) a move heralded by USA evangelical Christians, such as Scott

Scott Lively, Christian Missionary

Lively,  who claim that is the will of their god will not be outdone by the god of Islam and demands his share of human blood in sacrifice for the sin of homosexuality (see: http://www.towleroad.com/2010/01/the-nyt-looks-at-t-he-three-americans-who-participated-in-stephen-langas-uganda-conference-on-homosexuality-last-march-and.html and on Scott Lively see: http://www.boxturtlebulletin.com/2010/05/24/22914, http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/04/world/africa/04uganda.html, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9UGXSZDB7w).

Iran hangs gay boys

Educated, intelligent, reasonable, responsible people will hold the United Nations in total contempt for its despicable action, its contemptuous and cavalier denial of human rights, and its posturing as an agency supporting and defending human rights. The United Nations must be stopped before other human rights erode into oblivion. Now is the time to withhold all money from the UN and all of its organizations that pretend to speak for the down-trodden, the

Iraq tortures and kills gays

marginalized, for the UN has taken up the mantle, the torch, and the arson of Adolf Hitler and has turned the institution into one so vile and nefarious it does not deserve any respect.  Daily the bodies of gay men and lesbians pile up in Muslim nations while the faithful declare that Allah is Most Merciful and that Islam is a religion of love, compassion, and understanding. It is the idiocy of Islam that strangles sanity and charity, and it is buttressed by the intolerance of evangelical extremists and fanatical fundamentalists in the USA who march in step with Fred Phelps and his Kansas based Westboro Baptist Church that not only condones but even funds the executions of those found “unworthy” of charity or the right to life and basic human rights.  In this regard, the United Nations has turned its back, collectively, on humanity and has sanctioned the most inhumane acts against all of humanity that finds itself to displease a few religious who claim their deity or deities do not recognize any person’s right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
